so ive been looking for a job for MONTHS. have had some job interviews in the last couple weeks and even a job offer but no further news since.. today i had an interview and the manager at the store told me he would be interviewing until tuesday and then making a decision. so i get home, make dinner, check my email, and low and behold, there is an email from that store saying they hired someone already...i call bs on that.. its starting to get really discouraging, especially because i have job experience, am very friendly and professional and have had good responses from people. i dont know what to think at this point and frankly it sucks....

i know i just hate to get all excited and then get let down :(
im hoping the job offer comes thru but that was over a week ago and they said they would call me again in a few days tops so... who knows...
i love this song! gonna leave it playing in the background :)

I feel ya. My boyfriend is having the same problem. Its even harder to find a job now with electronic applications. They can weed your resume out based on not matching enough key words and no one ever sees it. It is very frustrating.

I'm sorry. :( The job market is definitely getting harder in a lot of areas. I know it's so discouraging to get your hopes up with an interview just to end up back at square one. Here's hoping the next one is successful and you get a job you enjoy! Sometimes getting a bad job is almost as bad as being unemployed...

Just keep your head up and that right job will be there for you when the time is right....there may be a reason why a job hasn't happened yet....keep the faith and best of luck to you.

it's hard times here in the US. i don't really care what the news says about how the recovery is rolling along, i know a lot of people out of work and they've been unemployed for months and even years.

finding a new job is very stressful and discouraging. take each interview and learn from it. i always say the first 3 interviews you won't get the job b/c it takes time to get back into full interviewing mode. you should critique each of your interviews and examine your answers and think of how you could've done better.

i hope your job search picks up and i'm curious, what kind of job are you looking for? have you tried to enlist the help of a headhunter?

i completely agree.. i take in my resume to all the places i apply online just to actually meet someone face to face. :(

tell me about it!! my mom went unemployed for over a year and luckily got a job a couple months ago, its coming up on a year that ive been unemployed too and im just busting my tail trying to find something but its really difficult, we live in a very small town and i have no transportation but my feet which is fine but it cuts down on the places i can apply to.
i am certainly taking each interview and learning from it, this last one i know i was not prepared when he asked me what department i wanted to work in and i paused. so im learning from each one and getting better prepared for the next one.
thank you! im pretty much looking for anything i qualify for, i have experience in food service, i was a cook, and cashier and i have experience in a cleaning service. so i can qualify for cashier jobs, customer service, cleaning, food service, bagging, stocking, pretty much all the beginner jobs.. what do you mean by headhunter?

As a question, do you have a 4 year degree?

no, im a senior in high school about to graduate in june. im not applying for anything that requires a degree but i do know that they like it if you have it. i understand that because we are in a recession there are a LOT of other people much more qualified then jobs then me but i keep hoping that someone will give me a chance because if no one ever give people in my generation a chance, we will never be able to move forward.. i am a pretty mature young woman who takes everything really serious and i really need a job so ive set my mind on finding one and i just hope i can find one soon

by headhunter i mean like a staffing agency. it sounds like you're doing all you can. you'll get a job, just keep trying and don't let them bring you down. a positive attitude and outlook is crucial. good luck.

no i havent gotten with a staffing agency, my mom brought that up the other day as well and i am going to do that thank you :) i am a part of snagajob.com a site that notifies you of local jobs if they are posted online but only a few of the places around here do that so most of the places i find are hiring are from word of mouth or me calling them and asking.
thanks, im just gonna keep plucking along and bringing everything i got to the table!!

I'm sorry :( searching for a job sucks. I started looking in august and filled out over 80 applications and nothing. Then I filled out one more and got the job:) chin up! There is bound to be a job out there somewhere!!

thanks for the support Courtney! in this economy im not surprised but it still sucks!!
i filled out an app after my disappointing interview yesterday and turned it in and i have a good feeling about it so we'll see ill let you guys know how it all pans out

Best of luck with the job hunting.its really discouraging I know I was out of work for a year and I nearly cracked up.but you just have to keep trying.its gone to a whole new level here in Ireland unemployment is way up and loads of people are leaving for Australia.I come from a small village and have about 30 friends and relatives after leaving.but you sound determined and organised I'm sure you'll find something soon

Looking for a job can be a downer whether you have a degree or not. I'm in college and work for a man who discriminates against women and I hate it, but money for school is very important in this day and age...

Have you tried calling them back instead of waiting for the reply??? That's what I do every time I look for a job. It doesn't always work, but it definitely makes the employer know you are interested and sometimes that's all it takes for them to know you are serious about a job. I never wait for them to call me. I usually give it a day or two after the interview and call them unless they tell me right away that I am not considerable for the position.

Good luck and don't let them get you down. Personality usually gets them to remember a person over how much experience they have. Trust me, I used to have to hire people at my old job. Great personalities always won over the experienced, though it did help if they knew what they were doing.

i always call back, between 3 and 5 days after dropping my resume&app off or the interview, i forgot to mention that. i had gotten a job offer and they said it could take a week to do the background check and then get the paperwork together and it had been a week so i called them and they said they couldnt see the results of the background check yet because the system is messed up and that they would try to have it fixed. im going to call when i get home again today to see whats going on. so we'll see. i was supposed to be starting there today but they havent called again i talked to them 3 days ago.

thanks for the well wishes and kind words! ii always try to bring my personality to the table by bringing my resume to stores where i have applied online and asking to see managers to give it to them. as well as showing as much as i can at the interview :) we'll see if it helps me nail down this job!!
