THREE, Laurie? Are they all ladies? My poor male is going to be a busy bee when he meets all of them.
I also have to start ordering my new cage, thanks for reminding me that they're coming in soon!

Oh crap, I guess I will tell hubby to get on my terrariums. He is custom making all 3. They will be 24x24x36. The bottom 8" will be solid for planting. Al I will take a close up of the sliding doors on the 2 smaller ones I used to keep my Tav's in. Now they have Williamsi geckos. If I change my mind very many more times one of you better have room for me & my chams.
No together we have 2.2. All the reading said you need two males to get them to "perform". Now we have it all. But after the girls are both gravid, one will come back with your male so you can see your set of babies born. I decided neither of us can miss that. Then I will take my girl home and you get to keep your babies - sound good?
Yes, sounds like a plan!
See we women know how to cooperate .
Whos not cooperating?
So I will be getting 2.2 pumilum and I cant decide if I should get a group of transvaals or just have a pair of transvaals and an additional pair of thamnobates. Man, this is costing me a small fortune! I hope we all do great with them like the Europeans do! idk what it is special that they do over there but they have a leg up on us in the reptile dept. Ive seen some of their set ups and theyre nothing special...
Those of you with my phone number need to gimme a heads up when threads like these are started! Lol
This is turning into a extremely neat deal. I have only seen groups of South African Dwarfs a couple times in the USA and never in such a large group. Good luck to all of you that are going to attempt to breed the three species in this shiment that is arriving.
Thamnos! Will anyone else be keeping them aside from myself and coldblooded?
Bert Langerwerf said they did great over here, and that his population grew into the hundreds! He also said the only reason there arent any around in the states anymore, was simply due to lack of interest in them at the time.
I think well do good with them.
Thanks!
There is very limited legal trade on Bradypodion, and I suspect a lot of the imports are not legal, so please beware. There have been few legal exports from South Africa to Europe but Im not sure the volume of legal trade matches the availability. For transvaalense, there was only ever one trade export to Europe recently in 2009, to Germany and to USA The last legal export of thamnobates for trade was in 1997 to the USA. The last legal export of pumilum was to Germany in 2009 but only 4 animals so doesn’t sound much like a breeding stock. Before that, 20 animals in 1997 for trade.

If Bert managed to grow his cb population of thamnos into the hundreds where are ANY of them now? even with the lack of interest I would think there would be some out there...

Looks like we're SOL. I tracked down Bert Langerwerf in Alabama, and here's what he had to say:
Eric,
No more, and no one is.
I had hundreds, about a decade ago, Too few people were asking for
them.
They are impossible to get now anymore.
Bert
