The clock is ticking

Yes Bert passed in 2008.

Is there any specific reason for them becoming non-viable? As well as for the veileds being an exception?
Or am I just incredibly naive?

Here is a quote and link to what I referenced earlier:

To the best of my knowledge why chameleons become non viable (panthers) after F5-F6 has not been identified. As is why Veileds species stay viable. It does mean though that some imports of WC animals are required to keep our hobby and studies outside of their natural environment going.

Thamno Enclosure Tease*

Ok, first off, I apologize to those who were expecting the release of Experimental Enclosures Part2 today. (my LOC that Ill be housing a trio of B. Thamnobates in )

I am STILL not finished

I do FULLY expect to be done tomorrow though! :)

In the mean time, Id like to talk a little bit about how I intend to keep my thamnos, and maybe get some feedback?

Ill be housing them outside as much as possible.

I am located on the east coast of NC, USA.

I should be able to leave them outside until Oct.-Nov. and maybe even longer than that.

I am new to this region though, so I am just going off of weather data I find on the net, and a couple of conversations with a few locals.

We will see how it goes.

Aside from all the wild bugs/flies that will be available to them, I intend to offer mantids, crickets, dubia, and phoenix worms/soldier flies at this point in time.

The outdoor cage they will be in, is 6' wide, 5' deep, and roughly 5' tall in the back, it has a sloped top, the front is roughly 4' tall.
I used EMT for the frame, and covered it in panels made in the same style as my other outdoor cages(https://www.chameleonforums.com/experimental-enlcosures-pt-1-a-81894/)

To give a general idea, here are a few snaps of it being built from weeks ago, it looks much different now:

Live plants that will be used include:
3 Acer palmatum (Japanese Maples) of 2 different "cultivars"
1 Nandina domestica (Heavenly bamboo)
1 Osmanthus fragrans (sweet olive)
2 Dracaena marginata
Lots of long grasses

Im also planting some herbs and vegetables in there as well, for feeders to eat on. I have some basil and carrots already that I intend to use, anyone have any other suggestions?

Thats all Ive got atm, Ill post the finished product tomorrow, I promise!

But but but... you promised!:(.................:p

I seriously thought Id be done a loooooooooooong time ago

Im just full of empty promises I guess :p

It may be next week before I actually get done

:p J/K, tomorrow for sure!

I actually tried to get pics earlier, but even with a flash it was just too dark. :(

How much is admission to your backyard ;):) I want the premium tour...

Well, the premium tour...........is always free to good company. ;)

It includes a few beers and a steak, if you ever make it down this way.

There are currently 4 enclosures back there (technically).

Stella's, Donahue's, Rio's(temp for injured turtle), and the thamnos.

I do feel like Im building a zoo sometimes

If you cant make it down, Ill do a video tour. :)

One day Ill make it to Nomadic?? LOL and we will chill with some of that good good cooking you speak of ;):)

Enclosures are going to be great Im sure

ok that was your post ( the NC one ) I thought so, but I wasnt sure which thread and was too lazy to go look ;)

Thats not too far only 14hrs, ;) One day I will tour the US and visit my CF friends :D

Miss laurie forgot the #1 rule of breeding.

You do NOT under ANY circumstances tell people you have some on the way unless they're out and you have many cute pictures.

No one is breeding anything yet, they have to get here safely, and then mature first. ;)

Not too far at all! Thats just two redlines, or 8 redbulls...

Ill be finished up shortly! ;)

Final count, 24 animals will be coming over.
3.4 pumilum
3.4 thamnobates
4.6 transvaalense

The breeder has sent me a copy of the Cites documents and would like to have them here May 22nd. Im sure you guys dont mind them getting here sooner:)

I want there to be a population explosion of these between all of us. If that doesnt happen then something is wrong! lol

OUTSTANDING!

Get them here asap!

Where the hell were all these people when I had multiple chances to bring them in:confused: Not a damn person wanted them. I guess if I was special and was allowed to advertise it may have been different:rolleyes:

Ive talked to a person who use to help Bert with his animals and also keep them. He said the drainage ditches got all plugged up and werent adequate enough to keep mold/fungus issues at bay and that is why they all died. Whether thats the truth or not who knows but I wont say the persons name.

I really hope all these animals do well for everyone. Id like to see what I started do a lot better than the two groups I brought in. Loosing just one is an expensive and sad loss. Wish I could say that most are still alive from the two groups I brought in but unfortunately that isnt the case. The supplier is such a nice person too and its also a shame when he sends a group over and it doesnt do well.

I cant seem to keep them alive so Ill just stick with the Kinyongias;)

Good luck to everyone participating and I cant wait to see some pics. I know first hand how awesome and healthy they will come in!!!

You know what they say timeing is everything you were ahead of your time. I know in my case I could swing it this time nothing personal. Besides being a small animal I'm sure longevity is probably short compared to the larger chameleons.
