The new Melleri (s)

LOL. We have drawn most of our cham set-up blueprints on napkins, at local restaurants. It's about the only time we get a chance to sit down face-to-face and do some planning!

Great set-up. Hopefully all our "couples" will do well in the coming years, and we will be able to offer folks some unrelated "pairs". Of course, the gender question will always pose a problem for "pairing". But it is very exciting to see more breeding possibilities developing.

What? You didn't know I can walk through walls? I'd have to, to get ya a side shot. lol

It's a corner unit. And my first cage build, but I've built so many fish tank stands and racks that I've gotten to where I don't need blueprints. I just lay it out in my head and write my dimensions down.

My last set of blueprints. LOL!

Wow Chams1 :)

It looks like you are a new member Chams1 from your stats but something about you seems familiar. Anyway, you do belong here for sure. You have quite a menagerie. Is your Argus a handful? I had two Argus monsters a few years ago. They were like full grown dogs and ate as much too. I got out of monitors to spend more time with the chameleons. Have you posted pictures yet? If not, please post some on new thread. I'd love to see your Melleri. I also use those big ready made bird cages for reptiles. I've got my iguanas in them and my Melleri are moving into one as soon as they are done with their quarantine period. I have one big bird cage outside for daily reptile sunning too.

I've got to learn to use gloves. My female Layla just ripped open a healing boo boo on my finger today with her grip. Now it has to start healing all over again. It's pretty exciting to meet so many people who are into the Melleri. It was a species I had ignored until I visited the Gesangs a few months ago.

I just can't get over how docile Lumbwi is. He pretty much tolerates anything I do. He's getting to where he only spots up if I am actually touching him.

I had to forcibly remove him from his perch today. No other way around it as he wasn't coming and it's too close to the top to coax him onto my hand. But he had to move. I needed to trim the tree right where he roosts. He took it in stride. His colors protested, but no gaping or hissing. Feruzi huffs up when I get anywhere near her.

Thanks Catherine. I'm enjoying them immensely. I envy that you live so close to the Gesangs. I would love to see their setup myself. Then again it would probably be a bad idea...giving me ideas an all. Next thing I know I'll be building enclosures in walk in closets.

Oh yeah..fecal finder..Not an issue. It kinda reminds me of cat poo. lol

PURE- I like all the little highways and byways you created with the dowels. Melleri really love horizontals as well as verticals.

We've met Julie in person. She does the shows, selling really cool T-shirts (like the one in her avatar), jewelry (I bought some great chameleons beaded and jeweled pins from her at the Pomona show), and (I think maybe) she sometimes sells animals too. She loves chameleons (which is why she joined the forum) and has helped other chameleon vendors at the shows.

We'd love to have her come to the northeast sometime. I think her stuff would do well at the Puyallup show.

Anyway, Julie, you've been lurking here on the forum so long- glad to see you are finally posting!

Yeah, I finally got my butt in gear and actually wrote something. I have been a member of the forum since October, 2008 (but not new to reptiles/chameleons) and would go on and read threads from time to time but just never devoted any real time to it. At the urging of a couple people, I decided that I needed to put aside some time for it. I love the site, though, because it's a vast pool of info and ideas for new and old herpers alike.

Yep, I have quite the thing going on at home, that's for sure. I often tell my friends to not spend money taking their children to the zoo - just bring them to my house! I have things that they will never see in a zoo and they just may get to touch, too! :) My argus is not quite a year old yet but she's already a monster and huffs like crazy. We are getting ready to undertake an outdoor enclosure project for her in the back yard with a cascading waterfall/pond and the whole nine yards. Spoiled little brat she is - she already has a wall-sized custom-built enclosure with all the perks! She's nothing compared to our dogs, though. In addition to the rest of our zoo, we also have 2 Greyhounds (although we have had as many as 6 at one time). Now, those things are about 100 lbs of lovey horse that think they are a lap dog.

Yes, I need to post some pics. I hope to have them up soon. Melleri are so awesome. I choose not to use gloves with them. My boo-boo's are permanent so I just deal with it. :D

Aawwww, thanks, guys!! I didn't want to brag about my own products/designs, but you did it for me!! :D Yep, I do most large shows in various parts of the country and lots of local shows in the Midwest. I have been into reptiles/chams for a while and have been selling my chams (and some geckos) locally (from Nebraska to Ohio and Wisconsin to Missouri). That's where my company, Chamo Wear, Inc. got started. I based my designs on my reptiles and their personalities (but mostly chameleons - hence the name) and it has grown into fun jewelry, stuff for the kids and Beadworx products. This is the stuff that I take to CA, AZ, CO, FL and TX shows (so far) because it's easier to transport than the reptiles.

I am always looking for new shows and just saw something this morning on the Puyallup show - I might just have to venture out your way!

Thanks, Gesangs!! Yeah, between my "day job" (paralegal) and the zoo at home (husband and child included), I rarely get to sit down and surf. I realized this is one more thing that I needed to make time for.

Now it's my turn to plug: For all of you looking for some cool cham stuff, feel free to check out my web site (www.chamowear.com) although I do have to apoligize b/c it is severely depleat and so not up to date. I don't think it's been updated in a year!! :( I have many more products/designs that I am working to get up on the site. Better yet, come see my booth at the Super Show!
