Tommy - Update

Quite a sad day for me today. Tommy had another check up with the vet this morning. Things have got slightly worse with his leg/foot and the vet said it is now partially paralysed. He now dangles it alot while resting and is reluctant to use it. He also hasn't eaten for 4 days, which is unusal since he has been taking his meds. He has been eating every day since the meds started, although he was never a big eater before his illness. He also sits with his chin resting on the branch too and looks rather sad at times. He's not too keen on coming out of his viv anymore either. It's sad not to hear him knocking on his door to come out - but he does still come out occasionally and always crawls up my front and wedges himself right up under my chin. He really is such a precious little man.

The vet had another good feel around his neck and said that although Tommy's xrays didn't show a tumour in his neck, that's not to say that there isn't one somewhere - it was hard to see much behind the bone structure of the casque on the xray. So, Tommy was given a Cortisone injection and we have to return on Saturday afternoon for yet another check up. It was awful when he injected Tommy - it made a sickening 'popping' sound as the needle went in.

Oh tiff I'm sorry. This has to be rediculasly awful for you to go through. I wish him well. I'm sure we all do. This is what chameleon keeping is about. Loving and carrying for some of the hardest reptiles to keep in captivity. I hope he comes through.

This is awful news about Tommy. It takes me back to the number of homes he had prior to you getting him and providing all the love and care he had been missing.

I do know the sound that comes with the injections, when giving Zeus shots for 10 days was a terrible experience. I was amazed how tough their skin really is. If it will help Tommy it is for the best. I know you loving Tommy will help him no matter what his health problems. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Tommy.

Thanks everyone - and Laurie that sound is horrednous! I really wasn't expecting that, as Lily had her injections in her thigh - this was injected into Tommy's side up near his spine. Ugh! I'll never forget that sound. :(

I'm so sorry Tiff, my eyes are filling up because of what poor Tommy and you are going through. :( He's my fave boy on here, such a special handsome boy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

Poor Tommy :( Hopefully the Cortisone will at least offer some relief.

I know it's hard to see them ill. Hang in there.

Tiff i know I have the link to ask for help from a vet but I can't find the link. I got it here on the forum so will keep looking.

Sorry to hear about Tommy. It is so hard when our loves are feeling poorly. My thoughts are with you both -- keep him close.
