too young to free range?

Hi everyone! I have a some plants set up to let my baby free range , but i'm terrified of losing him in the house..bbbb
I set up his cage in our room so he could have more privacy from my daycare kiddos, but our daughter's closet in near his cage and i'm scared he'd get lost in there - (our house has no closet doors in the rooms) any ideas? or should I just wait.

He currently hates me trying to hold it so I just let him be - he seems happy in his house at least
