Took a couple hours, but my boy has the hang of free ranging :) (pics)

My 8 month old Faly Dexter has been a lot less social than my other cham, so I decided to set up a free-range area for him so he would get more comfortable around people on his own terms!

He's been in and out of his cage for the past hour, seems to really like basking by the window! I don't know how much UVB gets in so I make sure he spends most of his time in his enclosure until I have something better set up. Hope you enjoy the pics!

he seems so happy on his free range!! im sure this will bring much enjoyment for him and lots of entertainment for you

glass blocks most if not all UVB so even though he is in the sunlight, he isnt really collecting UVB. im sure hes enjoying the view tho!! there are alot of members who free range quite a bit or all the time so i would search for other threads on free ranging and see what you can find about how much UVB he should still be getting a day

Will do! I won't keep him on for long, I just think it's a huge break through that he's coming out now, he even seems more relaxed outside his cage. In my new place I'm going to have a UVB tube unit set up over a free range for them, for now I'm letting him coem out for 20 minutes here, 20 minutes there, hes seems fine with the transfer now which is new to me haha. Thank you!

thats awesome that he is being so calm about it! they certainly seem to love getting to free range im sure this will help bring him out of his shell!!

that sounds like a great idea, that way they can free range for longer periods of time

Love it! I cannot get Waldo to stay on his free range plant for the life of me. He did great for the first week then all of a sudden he grew confidence and with that the desire to conquer the 20 foot long sliding glass doors in there. He always, without fail somehow gets down and goes to the sliding screen doors and climbs to the top and just stays there. I am always scared he is going to loose his grip because he cant wrap his tail kn anything. Not sure why they fascinate him so much.

Anyway congrats on getting him to loosen up a bit, I think me giving Waldo a small plant to go out on helped him as well.

Hi! I actually know someone that had trouble keeping a cham on their free range, I'm sure you've tried a lot of things, but what worked was using something like those big cardboard display boards used for school projects, or just regular cardboard haha! She put it on the ground standing up around the plant and the cham eventually learned he can't get out that way so he began staying on the free range! Just a thought, thanks for your comment
