hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right section for this but thought I would share with you all my plans for a new Furcifer Oustaleti project I will be starting in the new year. I plan to document each stage and will be posting on here as I go. Firstly this is not my first time owning the Ousties, I had some great success a few years back with 72 out of 74 eggs hatching out (still the largest oustie clutch I have heard of so far). But briefly my plans include;
The chameleons;
1 male, 2 females. WC but will be vet checked and given any required medications or treatments before breeding is attempted.
Enclosure;
4 feet deep, 7 feet high and 9 feet wide, wood and mesh/screen construction, live planted with bio activated substrate and lit with metal halides or similar. I will also have a seperate enclosure for the male should the need for seperation arise.
Food;
I breed all my own food anyway but some tasty treats I will be breeding for the project will be; Fruit flies and pinheads for the hatchlings, crickets, locusts, roaches (dubia and hissers) waxworms, mealworms, pachnoda grubs, pinkies, house geckos and anything else that I may think of along the way
I have all the incubators and vermiculite/perlite I will need and will also be posting up the hatchling cages when I build them, although if my last clutch was anything to go by they wont be needed for a LONG time yet LOL!!
Hydration;
This is something I am still undecided on, my last pair were lovingly sprayed by hand but since the enclosure will be so large I may go for an automated system. The water will be RO - any suggestions people??
So far that is as far as I have got. I am selling my gecko collection to make room for this build and dont plan to start until after christmas. The chameleons themselves are ordered for April next year so I have plenty of time to get things sorted. Anyone have any suggestions or think of anything I may have missed out??
Cheers guys...
