UVB meter enough?

Hi everyone,

Just put my cages out side in my backyard, which is very shady..the placement the cages are in, only gets a very narrow edge of sun for maybe an hour of the day which is good as want to prevent overheating.

I control the heat with a heatlamp and wasn't intending on using uv lamps since uv will be bouncing off surfaces and still getting to the cage however would like to make sure they would get enough uv..

Is this meter any good > http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=360897594336

Does not have to be precise, just a rough estimate would be fine...and what would be too high of a reading, or too low of a reading..

I will be keeping montanes and a common chameleon..

Thanks in advance

It should have uv radiation 12 hours a day, not 1.I would invest in a uvb tube light for $20-$35 for a okay one and up to $100 for a great one. Also needs uva

Thanks for the replies .

In fact that's what I would like to test..if there if enough UVB in the cages without the lights..

What would be an acceptable - (meaning enough UVB ) reading on the meter?

Right so I just got the Uv reader from the list above...at the moment I cannot afford the solameter .

I am getting readings of around 0.3 from about 4 inches below the UVB tube (Arcadia 10%) ..

I will be testing the outdoor enclosures tomorrow.

What do you guys think?

Crap, I cannot remember the girls name. There is a female user here, from UK i believe who is smart in the actual numbers of the UVB meters. Give me a while and I will try and find her on here. Otherwise, will find you the other thread that had details. :)

I am still trying to find the thread. Even searched all 20 pages of my posts trying to find her. Have some info though, just not all.
