Vanity drainage project

What kind of saw did you use to cut by the way? And did you just trace the larger lip of the pot to the plywood?

You can't trace the outer rim, it'll be too big. You have to guesstimate. Start small and adjust. I used a cordless sawsall.

The saw? Not too expensive. I picked up a Ryobi cordless combo with drill, sawsall, circular saw, flashlight and two batteries for $100? Home Depot right before Fathers Day. Helluva deal!

A jig saw would get better cuts.

If it were me I would get a piece of poster board and a compass, Measure the diameter of the pot and make a template with the correct size hole on the poster board. You can size it up with scissors and a mistake is much cheaper. Once you have your template you can use it for all the future builds and not have to measure again. Use a sharpie to trace where you want to cut and follow it with the jig saw. (You will also need a drill to start the cut which you can also find for inexpensive.)

No guessing required!

Here is the type of jig saw I'm talking about:

I have a fancy expensive one and a few cheap ones and to be honest unless you're trying to do something really intricate or cutting into hardwood the inexpensive ones are fine.

When I start building cages I will do a step by step with all tooling details and how to, I've been working with wood since I could walk pretty much.

Great stuff! I was working with what I had. Lol. I did keep the template for the PVC that I cut. No more guessing next time! ;)

40 bucks for a vanity! Nice!

I was in HD and Lowes today and didnt see anything close to that price range. Now I'm gonna have to look online for em and see if I can get em that way. I was thinking that was the solution ... I was seeing em for 99 and up today...

Before ReptoMan built my dual cage stand/drain table, I used a vanity setup. The best I found at Lowes that fit my 2X2 footprint was one that I caught on sale for about $200. I also had color to consider and the nice stained ones were more than white.

They definitely have them. There may not have been any on the shelf, but maybe in the back or on the rafters. Did you ask anyone?

what are the dimensions????

i'm going to look also.... im working on getting Stanley a gf and i think this would work out great as a base for an additional cage!!!!!

Lisa, the dimensions are 19D x 33H x 25W. It obviously isn't deep enough for the bigger cages, thus the need to cut out a 25x25 board to accommodate the 2x2x4 cage. :)

I think mine was the 18in base without the sink. Its important to tell them or find the one without the sink. The price will change dramatically. I also picked out some plywood and had them cut 25x25 and then got a water sealant and coated the plywood on both sides.

One of mine is painted to match the vanity but my other two vanities that I made for my males are not painted. Then got some larger pots for my citrus trees I put in and then made sure the trees were going to be shorter than the top of my cage. Took me two days to do because I got lazy after I went shopping for it all and started construction the next day.

Here is my females cage. Hope this helps.

Ahhhh,,,, thanks! So you just center the top over the stand itself and attach?

OR a variation of that. I wanted mine to be flush at the front because of the doors. The only problem with that is that you'll have several inches hanging off the back end and it looks kinda funny...

I see what you mean,, but that's only 3" front and back, if centered... 3 inches.. Ohhhhh,,,, that's nothing!!!!! ;)
