Veiled colors

I have a one year old male veiled (posted in my gallery pictures) that I'm kind of wondering about his coloration.

I've had him for about a little more than 4-5 months and the majority of the time, he's just a brown color. I've had Rudis chams, pygmy, and a female veiled, and they don't normally display much color change compared to male veileds. I've seen pictures on this site of peoples males with nice bright colors and I was wondering if he was stressed.

His cage is 24x24x48". He's on a cricket strike right now and only eats silk worms and goliaths. I haven't seen him drink in some time, yet I do heavily mist his cage every day. He just went through a complete shedding two days ago up till now. The only time that I see him turn brighter colors is when I handle him and let him sit on my hand, when I'm in his cage either cleaning or taking pictures of him, and when he's asleep. Is this a normal thing for him to be brown all the time? I don't think he's stressed as he just sits there perched on a vine just looking around in the room. I've seen him stressed before and he turns extremely dark brown colors. So I don't htink this normal brown is a stressed color. But i could be wrong. Any input is greatly apreciated.

umm your veiled doesn't looked brown to me (in your gallery anyway).
Is it possible to get pics when he's that brown?
if he's brown when he sits around basking lamp, then i think it's normal.

Is he pissy at all?

your colors are gonna vary from bloodline to bloodline some people like a certain shade of colors and breed to generate the colors they like or other people might like.like with veileds i seen some are a very bright almost neon green while others are not so green and maybe a darker green or pastel green like a crayon.
you also have your moods that seem to affect colors n such like if they are disturbed their colors usually glow a little more like mine get brighter when they are mad etc but they have a tendency to have a glowing affect when they get mad. which is kinda what got me into chameleons in the first place i was curious about the color changes etc like now with the panthers and their colors i think they might be reacting to situations like the veileds do.
i really dont know alot about it i only been in this hobby for 2 years and i dont have alot of time.

We have a neon looking green-on-green male, whose resting/sleeping/fired-up coloration always consists of various shades of green to minty-green. We have another male veiled whose resting colors are browns, with some turquoise-green. When he fires up he is turquoise with bright yellow, golden brown, and a little purple thrown in, and so I think he is perhaps a "turquoise/high yellow" morph. It took some getting used to, because to me he looked ill compared to the green-on-green cham. I, too, wondered if the darker coloration was stress related. But now I've seen enough photos of the brown/turquoise bloodline to see that it is normal- technically he is a turquoise body with yellow stripes. I will add a few photos when I get on my own machine in a few minutes.

Yeah my guy almost 99% of the time is green. I hardly ever see him anything else. I have seen him green a few times with spots all over him.

Here is Wolfgang, our "brown" veiled. The first 2 photos were taken 4 days after we brought him home for "rehab". He's a rescue, who had burned skin, a bent-up casque, and dehydration. The next photos show him 2 1/2 months later, just a few days ago. He also displays the "white head" that is being discussed on another thread. He sheds his head regularly. The last photo is of Guido, our green-on-green veiled, at rest.

If your talking about Kong, I bet he's a beauty when he's fired up. Have you put a mirror up to him yet? I thought mine was just an ordinary green veiled, nothing like some of the knockouts I see on here....until I put a mirror up to him. Glow in the dark yellow bars and flourescent greens. If you haven't done this, you'll be very suprised. He looks very good to me. Looks like he's going to be full of bright, bright yellows. Let us know. David

I noticed that, too, about Kong, that he has good shape and beautiful markings. His stripes are nice and wide and solid. Perhaps DJ Special K can get a better photo of him. He'll probably be a real knock out.

We tried the mirror thing with Guido, because he's so mellow that it's hard to get him "fired up". Well, he looked at it, climbed aboard and tried to mate with it . But then he's also mounted our hands, garden gloves, beanie babies, and a cordless phone.

My male is about 2 years old and he has similar coloration, not as brown. When he is ready to mate he turns white and yellow (he is a sunburst). Mine just recently was not drinking and I put pedialite in a siringe and squirted it in his mouth 2 days in a row, about 1 cc, and he is drinking now. I also bought a humidity mat which seems to be helping.;)

Horny Feller...LOL...He didn't turn on his colors? Mine does it every time.

Yeah, I'll get a picture of him fired up. When he's fired up, he displays that neon yellow stripes on green with blue or turquoise spots. He looks really good when he's like that. When he's resting or just sitting in his cage, he's a brownish color similar to the picture of him on the right of the picture i posted. The main picture of him was him almost displaying his beautiful colors... but the basking lamp kinda shaded him with the light's color so you only get a hint of what he would look like all fired up. I had more pictures of him after when he was completely green and yellow, but they weren't completely in focus. Ill get some pics this weekend.

He's got a great attitude too. He doesn't lunge or hiss at me EXCEPT lately. I don't know why, but he used to love getting handled. It took some time getting him out of the cage as he would just slowly walk to the top corner where he knows i can't reach without a stool. I think maybe after I started giving him showers, he's starting to be a little defensive when I try and get him out. He doesn't bite... well... i haven't been bitten so far. He's starting to gape at me a lil more now... He's developing an attitude. hmm... Does this sound like Kong's trying to tell me that he's not satisfied with something?

yeah the brown veiled is different i have not seen alot of those mine fires orange like that not as intense.like you were saying the little purple areas show up from time to time.when you were saying the morenesta sambavas have black eyes which i like cause he looks cool with black eyes im hoping his offspring have black eyes with red stripes i will be happy or closer to being happy like everybody else.i was reading about panthers yesterday i had some time and the sambava i got matches the description because his blood coloring .
i also been throwing around a few ideas in my head a name for him and i need a name thats gonna help sell his offspring if he has them ever.if they mate and the eggs are good i can take them to hatching because i have the egg incubating process wired but back to the naming of something people
will want to buy from i mean a name is only a name but it could help by theming him and his hatchlings to sell.right now everyone seems to love the ambilobes, ambanga, moren mitsio etc. the really colorful bright rainbow bright colors and my buyers dont want bright colorful animals they are gonna want dark colors that have a certain look so im getting into a very different breeding approach then others have done in the past except maybe by accident.

I have two veileds and the male is brown most of the time while the female is green as green can be. They are siblings and are being raised in the same manner, so I think it is just their regular, respective colors. Like yours, mine will change when stressed.

my 10 mo veiled is very rarely bright green. I have to fire him up for photos, otherwise he's pretty dull colors.

I notice sometimes when i come home and see him basking, relaxed and bright green, I feel more relaxed.

well my veiled like most spends most of his time by the top and lights. here he is dark on the basking side and has nice stripes on the other side. lol. when he ventures to the middle he brightens up or when he trys to escape. he is his most stunning at sleep tho. i have a picture of him fired up in my gallery. he is very dark.
