Vet costs?!

So I stopped in to my closest vet (1 mile from me) who sees chams and wanted to get a feel for what its going to cost me when I take Kai in for a wellness check. They quoted me $60 for the visit, so then just to prepare myself for possible future issues…an x-ray will run about $165 and their fecal checks were insane at $55!! Ive done O&P's before so I will just be doing those myself. Is this a reasonable amount for x-ray though? Thanks in advance :D

My new vet charges $40 for an exotic visit but I've also paid around $55-60 at most other clinics. An exotic fecal on average has been $18-22, depending on the clinic, and an x-ray about $150. So apart from the fecal your prices seem to be within the range of what I've experienced at 5-6 different vets here in Florida.

$60 is right in line with an office visit for me, an extra $15 for meds, if needed. My vet charges $16 for a fecal check - $55 seems outrageous.

Really stupid question, are you sure they understood what you were asking for and quoted the correct price? It might be worth calling back to verify.

My vet charges $65.00 for an office visit and $80.00 for an x-ray. I believe a fecal is around $20 or $25. You might find this poll interesting.

Check this thread out where the members here posted their vets.

That poll was quite interesting ;) Thank you for linking those! I guess Ill just have to see if travel would be worth it. Like I said my local vet is great with exotics and birds and takes me a minute to get there vs a 1hour to 3 for the other Ohio vets. It just seemed a bit pricy for the X-ray. Oh well he's my baby boy so whatever he needs :D Thanks again jannb!

Not a stupid Q at all. I told them I was just wanting to bring him in for a wellness and at 60 that is totally reasonable but then I asked on a "what if" basis I wanted to have an X-ray to check his bone density, she said 160-165. I don't think she liked my reaction  She (receptionist) asked if there was anything wrong and I told her no but since Im a new cham mom I spaz over the littlest things and just wanted to know for future reference.

Thank you Olimpia! Yeah I was just curious what the X-ray range was. Its up there but I will pay it if I ever need to. They are really great and the one minute drive is a bonus!

My vet charges $65 for fecal because they send them out and all tests are run. They can do an in house float but it's like $45 and won't tell you as much. X rays are around $150 and blood work around $145. My boys average 300-400 per visit. It's a lot but we do t have many options s in my area. I drove over an hour to Austin to see a recommended vet and prices were about the same.

Yikes! I just need to get a job at the reference lab near me, that would be ideal;)
