Vet in New Jersey?

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if anyone from New Jersey had a good, reputable exotic pet vet in New Jersey. We are in Monmouth but are willing to drive. Our female ambilobe is not looking too hot. She has been closing her eyes for a couple of days now and yesterday I noticed undigested food (there was no urate with it, so I'm assuming she threw it up).

We had brought our very first chameleon, Rosie, to a vet in East Brunswick and he was terrible. Had no idea what he was doing, never did any tests on her, just told us to force feed her and she died. If anyone can help us out with a name, number, vet anything, I'd really appreciate it. I want to help Layla feel better ASAP.

Started to go through the thread and found this. Don't know if it is close to you or not. Just keep going through and see what is the closest for you. Also several in New York.

I am in NJ and my vet is Dr. Wolf at Companion Animal Hospital. It's in Parsippany, NJ.

He specializes in Birds and Reptiles.

IMO he is a great vet compared to others I am seen in NJ and really knows his reptiles.

I had used that area by area link last time, which led me to the vet in East Brunswick who did nothing, that's why I figured I'd ask people who are on the forum who have had good experiences with vets. But thank you for the help :)

She had her eyes closed again today. But opens them right up when I make a sound by scratching on the cage. She is actively hunting her food and eating it with no problems.

I am sure you are aware that a sleeping cham during the day is not a good sign at all. what type of lightin are you using?

great vet

I swear by Dr. Joe Filigno at the Blackwood Animal hospital in Blackwood, NJ. He specializes in reptiles and I've brought mine in several times. He fixes them quick and he barely will charge you. He likes it when people actually care for their reptiles and bring them in to him:)

Barry Stuart in Bound Brook( as per carol's post) can do chem panels and fecals on site when you visit. He is not cheap but thorough and CBC results are in quickly. There is another in Manhattan I haven't tried but they can do fecals while-u-wait and possibly some blood work. They are on CPW in the 80s I believe and are birs specialists with a reptile specialist aboard.

Yes, we definitely know eyes closed during the day is not good. We have a dual fixture with a 2.0 plant bulb as well as a reptisun 5.0. She has plenty of heat from the heat lamp, between 75 and 80 in the basking area. We supplement her on the same schedule as the other 3 chameleons, who have the exact same set up as her, who are also perfectly healthy and fine.

Where is Blackwood located? We are just trying to find a few places and hopefully will find one that is relatively close. We are bringing our puppy to the vet tomorrow and plan on asking him if he knows of any vets that care for reptiles.

Still looking for a vet

We had taken Layla to a vet in Oakhurst and he was great, did an xray gave her antibiotics and she is perfectly healthy.

The DOWNSIDE is walking in the door cost us $115 alone... not including the medicine and xrays. We spent over $300. For people who posted their vets in NJ, would you mind me asking what it costs you just to go in? I'd really appreciate it!

I had gone to Dr Stuart in Bound Brook earlier last year with a sick melleri. He seemed like a pretty good vet. He did some bloodwork, prescribed baytril, lactulose, and metronidazole benzoate. The total vet bill was $430. Hope that helps you a bit with what your looking for.

Do you know how much it costs just to go in though? Usually there is an initial "seeing the vet fee", if you know what I'm talking about.

I'll see if I can dig out the vet bill and find that for you. I can't remember what the charge was for that off the top of my head.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. I am in no immediate need for a vet but I'd like to have one in my back pocket so I am not scrambling when/if something happens. I am in Monmouth county New Jersey, same as the OP. Does anyone have any experience with vets in the area?
