Water proofing Wooden Stand?

I am currently making a wooden stand for my 2x2x4 for my female panther chameleon. I though that it would probably last longer if the wood was sealed and waterproofed, just so the water would not rot the wood. Is this a good idea? And if so, what products are safe for chameleons? Or better for animals? The wood is not going to be inside the cage and thus not accessable by the lizard, but I still want to be sure. Better safe than sorry.

i have recently waterproofed my new cage build. i used a 2 part expoxy varnish which is solvent free so very low VOC

I used epoxy varnish for the inside as it can be submerged in water and still be dry as a bone as its for use on boats

I also used polyuretane spray finish on the outide painted surafaces which is also a hard water resistant finish

Both work great. Id go with a polyureathane spray can an give it a coat or just a clear varnish
