Hi, I am new to the Cham community and would like some help trying to figure out what the best chameleon is to get. One other q, is a Senegal chameleon a good one?

Beman gave great direction. Welcome to the community!!! I recommend reviewing the husbandry for the specific species you are interested in and make sure you can keep humidity and temperature in check for them to stay healthy. At that point whatever species of cham you can provide proper habitat for, choose from that list. If you are in a drier environment, maybe veiled or common chameleon is a good choice for you. If you are in a damp colder environment, maybe panther or Jackson would be good. To me it all depends on the environment you can provide.

You use Repti calcium without D3 for every meal, with an exception.
Twice a month (one day in the beginning of the month and another day in the middle of the month, whatever works for you, so long as it's a half a month apart) you will use the calcium with d3 for their meal.

Of course, it all depends which species you want. The most common chams are Veiled and Panther, and they follow this regimen. This video is very helpful.

If you opt for Senegal chameleon, be aware they are wild caught. The need to be on surveillance of being acclimated and treated for parasites.

Hi and welcome! Some supplements are a bit easier to use than others. For example, Repashy Supercal without D3 is a really nice loose powder that doesn’t clump up so easily, while the Zoo Med ReptiCalcium does get clumpy. Also, it’s not only easier, but a bit better to use a vitamin D3 and multivitamin combination product, either Repashy calcium Plus LoD or ReptiVite with D3. Both of those contain a form of vitamin A that we know chameleons can utilize (unlike the form that most other supplements use). You’d lightly dust every feeding with the plain calcium without D3 and then, depending on species, you’d use the combo D3/multivitamin for one feeding either once a month (for sensitive species like Jackson’s) or twice a month for panthers, veileds and others. I’ve no idea how sensitive Senegal chameleons are to supplements or anything else about their care. Some things are somewhat standard though…like you’d need at least a 2x2x4’ enclosure with safe live plants, plenty of branches or vines, T5HO with either Arcadia 6% or ReptiSun 5.0 uvb and basking light (most need basking temps of no higher than in the 80’s).
