What did I do wrong?

The strangest thing just happened.

On a Facebook page, a guy was trying to re-home his male veiled cham. The pictures looked good and I asked a few questions about him. Other people also responded but they weren't local and he didn't want to pay for (or be bothered to figure out) shipping a live animal.

I told him that I was interested and could pick him up but wanted as much info beforehand on his care and history etc. I sent him the "How to Ask for help" questions thinking ithat would give me an idea if there might be potential problems.

This guy flipped out, called me ridiculous, OCD, high-maintenance, said that information was not necessary, maybe my questions would make sense if he was selling the cham, etc.

I feel really bad :( did I do the wrong thing asking him for so much information? Should I have just taken the cham and been grateful he was free?

Don't feel bad, one should not feel bad when the other person has issues! By the way, nithing in this world is ever realy for free! This chameleon would not have been for free if the guy acted like that! You would have other hidden costs like vet bills etc. I feel certain that he is trying to hide something!

I feel even a bad owner would have no problem filling it out. they need to up the price on veileds (i know it won't happen) it's a shame to see these idiots with them. The couple times i've been in petco they had a small horizontal glass tank with cocofiber substrate, 1 branch, and a small fake plant, with about 5 chams in it. I don't even see how that is legal.

I think asking a lot of questions so you will know the level of care needed, and the reason for re-homing, is not only reasonable, but a requirement of a responsible keeper. I was going to buy a re-homer, and told the owner I was bringing a box to transport the cham the 2 1/2 hour drive back home. She insisted that I just put the cage in my car with the cham unsecured and drive back across two states. Did I mention it was going to be 36 degrees that day? I declined to transport the cham that way, she called me crazy and blocked me. Sometimes people are just...odd.

What's wrong with being a responsible pet owner? This was either some sort of phishing scam, or set up. I think you took him off guard by asking questions, and that's why he got defensive. He couldn't answer your questions, because there was no cham to begin with. Be happy that you didn't get roped in over your head!

Trust me, you did nothing wrong. Pardon my French here, but some people are just assholes. I had something very similar happen on this forum. It really does irk me when you try to find out all the information and then they treat you like you did something wrong. Grr.

He is the one with OCD, its not worth ur time since he cant provide any answer to ur questions.....basically just let him know to kick rock cause he doesnt have the brain n u dont have the time to waste on his rude attitude, and just imagine how he treat his poor cham if he cant even answer the simple questions with the caring cham owner like u.no time to waste,u shall move on quickly for sure!!
