i'll give that a try. i just did that. if i had her outside for a couple of hours i dont need to have the light on, right?
Step 3:Fluckers is terrible.
female 2 months Veiled chameleon i've had her for about a week. right now due to financial status i only feed her crickets i'm waiting on the repti-cal d3, i usually feed her about 10am i've seen her eat 3 then i put couple more in there if she's still hungry i'll say she eats about 5 or so, i feed the crickets Flukers High Calcium Cricket Diet and Flukers Calcium Cricket Quencher. I dont handle her much i dont want to upset her much, but i do handle her. her fecal looks like a dark brown looks kind of like a sack and something yellow attached. The cage is all around cage about 2 maybe 3 feet high about foot maybe a bit more wide. there is a blue day light bulb i'll have the light on for about 12 hours if i dont take her outside. the average temp i would have it is about 80-85F. at night about 70F, i have a thermometer that sticks to the inside of the cage but i'm expecting a digital one that reads temp and humidity. yes live plants schefflera arboricola and dracaena. its located corner of room almost to the corner of the window its about 3 feet off the floor and there isn't really much activity besides 2 people walking in and out of the room. she is by our tv. she might get air from the AC vent but i dont think to much because the room gets pretty warm and stuffy at times, I live basically desert area so the temp goes up.
Why is it terrible... Its a good amount of crude protein and calcium levels are good at 8% to .6% phosphorus... And its vitamin content isn't too bad.... Im not saying its great as the ONLY part of a gut load but why is it terrible?
The cage thermometer that you have, is it near her basking spot or is that a reading of the ambient temperature of the cage? If the ambient temperature of the cage is 80-85 I would assume your chameleons basking spot is higher then that. If you havent done so already, measure the closest branch/vine/leave that is under the basking spot and make sure it isnt over 85 degrees.
My came, within a month of owning had the same problem with the mouth always being open. I filled out the questions and received corrections on about 7 things I had wrong with my setup. The two that I think were the cause of the open mouth where basking too hot (mine was 90 at the time) and not enough misting.
You are about to get a load of help from these members, pay close attention and follow carefully and your cham will be in good hands
EDIT- also, if possible, provide a picture of your chameleons enclosure setup
