Will the Cham eat a small lizard?

Everytime I take him outside and he spot a lizard he will try to follow it. Will he eat it if he can catch it?

Yes most of them will, try not to let him eat too many because it's bad for their digestive system.

yes, chameleons can and will eat lizards. can i ask you a question though?
why and what is the purpose of feeding it?
its time to make like Bill Nye and "consider the following"
1) is the lizard WC? or is it bred? feeding off wild lizards and mammals poses a great risk of parasites. parasites = major problems

2) is your chameleon gravid, malnourished, thin, vitamin defficient? if no, then there is no reason to be giving your chameleon hard body and high fat/protein vertabrates like lizards, mice, pinkies, etc.

3) are you a sicko who just likes to watch animals get eaten? if so, take your ass to the tv, its shark week on discovery channel!!

overal, feeder anoles and feeder lizards are a big no no to chameleons, unless it is nessecary and a captive bred lizard free of parasites. mice, pinkies and fuzzies should only be used under certain circumstances,

this post kind of upsets me AReptile. it is not good information. while you are correct that it is bad for their digestive system (it is a lot harder for the animal to metabolize all the fat and protein and vitamins correctly in captivity. it is just as bad if the OP is "trying not to let him eat too many" should be "try not to let him eat ANY"

Noooo. I'm not trying to feed those to my Cham. I ask because every time I take him outside the cage to the garden he seems to try to catch one.

what type of cham do you have he might just be a curious cham like my pandora is. My oustalat i feed anoles and house gecko's from time to time. depending on the species yes some do eat lizards, small birds and even their own kind. I wouldn't allow it all the time but its just the cirlce of life. it's up to you but if thats the cham you have i don't think he would be able to down a lizard cause it looks like a little jacksons to me.

@shenzi, it was a joke, not really rude. If you thought it rude, then you have a very, very sensitive personallity.

Well I also thought it was rude, but i'm here for help.

Anyway the lizards seems to be pretty fast for the little Jackson.

Please don't just read the title of a thread, read the actual post.

agreed, clearly stated that when he brings his chameleon outside he will spot a small lizard and chase it. didnt say that he brings his chameleon outside and throws small lizards in its face wondering if he will eat it.

Either way, stick to the usual feeders; crickets, roaches, worms. yes the chameleon would eat, would advise to not let it happen

yes, they can eat other small lizards, but i dont see any use of doing so, it is bad for thier digestive system so i would just stick with worms and crickets :)

Remember that in this forum there are people from around the world. It is OK if it was a joke, thanks for let everybody know. :)

I also took it as a joke, and a pretty funny one at that. But this is a really good point. People from different cultures obviously have different communication styles, so it is important to make sure we clarify when something that could be taken badly is meant to be lighthearted. :)

Speaking from years of experience, chams will eat anoles and other small lizards, frogs birds etc. without any issues. I have been using WC, CB and CH small anoles as feeders for chams and other herps without ANY issues. Yes they will eat them! Yes on occasion it is very good to add to there diet! Unless your catching sickly adult lizards from polluted areas, you shouldnt have any problems. Freshly WC anoles are MUCH MUCH HEALTHIER then the ones in any pet shop. Just because something is wild doesnt me it is parasite infested! Chams eat vertabrate animals in the wild. There are many positive reasons to feed them to your chams. Natural calcium, vit. A, protein, etc etc. Whoever said it was bad for digestion knows nothing about chams.
There is alot of uneducated keepers on the forum lately. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE YOU START MISINFORMING PEOPLE!.......

THERE IS ABSULETLY NOTHING WRONG WITH FEEDING UR SMALL JACKSON A SMALL LIZARD..IT FITS THEIR PREDITORIAL INSTINCTS AND AS LONG AS THE LIZARD IS NOT AS BIG AS THE CHAM THERE WILL BE NOTHING WRONG WHEN THE DIGESTION PROCESS TAKES PLACE. ALSO IF IT IS WC LIKE YOU SAID THERE WAS SOME IN YOUR BACKYARD,,IT IS NORMAL TO SEE THEM RUNNING IN PAIRS AND SINCE THERE SMALL IT IS UNCOMMON FOR THEM TO BE PARASITICAL. I HAVE PERSONALLY FED MY JACKSON WICH IS ABOUT 7 MONTHS OLD SMALL LIZARDS AND I COUGHT THEM IN MY BACKYARD I ONLY FED ONE THOUGH AND GAVE THE OTHER TO MY FRIEND THT HAS A BEARDED DRAGON.WC LIZARDS HAVE PROTEIN AND VITAMINS THT WILL NOT BE FOUND IN CAPTIVE CARE LIZARDS SO IT IS BENIFICIAL FOR UR CHAM. if ur cham is sick or not in a healthy condition ..it would be best not to feed it lizards.
