Wound treating and DIY!

Hello everyone,

As you can see I'm new on this forum and I'm not a native speaker so i will immediately apologize for my present and future mistakes. :)

I have female chameleon around 3 years old and i would like to say that she wasn't with me form the begining. I got her maybe a year ago and she was in terrible condition. She wasn't eating, she was dehydrated and she was visibly weak. I took care of her and now she is quite fine. Except one thing that bothers me allot. You see, in Serbia you cannot reach the vet easily. There are only few of them. And of course they are very very expensive and hard to get. So, I had to take care of her with what i had. I could find calcium and D3 vitamins, UVB lamp and things for every-day care.. But real medications...hardly.
I have read a few topics on this forum with maybe the same problem as mine. But all the answer were ''Take it to a vet."

So, the problem is that my Ch. is a bubble on her back. I have increased vitamins and i started to give her more vegetables. The bubbles dried and now there is only a scab. The scab is also drying now and it starts to fall off. But the worry is that i can see open wound under the scab. I'm afraid that she will get some kind of infection or something that I will not be in position to cure myself.

What I'm asking is:
Are there any human medications that i can use to prevent possible infections? And how to use them?
And also, if some one has any good advice for me...i would be very very happy to listen to them.

I also want to say that she is mobile, healthy, she is eating normally, eyes are ok, mouth, poop, ankles are ok and that she does not have MBD.

Thank you very much for your help.

Slobodan,

Serbia.

:)

The first thing that needs to be done is with food.

Make sure the food is gutloaded with carrots, kale, apple, orange ect.

He needs to be eating and drinking regularly so he has nutrients to heal.

I am looking up some home remedies now.

And your English is fine ;) Better than most on this site

You might try an antibiotic ointment that is sold over the counter. One of those things to put on cuts before you put the bandage on. Make sure it just has antibiotics, not pain killer. That should help keep it moist so it can heal well.

It's possible this was a burn, so make sure she cannot get too close to the heat light.

Remedies for wound...

Grabbed from another thread

"Most are treated topically with a rinse of Nolvasan solution, air dry, then slathering on Silvadene cream and repeating all every 24-48 hrs."

"If you have a topical ointment such as silvadene or Nolvasan you may want to put some on the wounds."

There is two sources, one for Burns and the other for Open Wounds. both same treatment. Try and find these Topical Ointments.

Thank you very much guys...

It's not a burn becouse lighting in terrarium is 15 cm from chameleon..i mean basking spot.
Food is gutloaded always... I give them latice, carrots, potato, apples,...
So i think i give her fine food.
And i will look for medications in drugstore...

What do you think about iodine???

Is it possible to get a picture of the wound?

I don't know if iodine is safe for chameleons or not. If it were me, I wouldn't use it until I knew for sure it was.

Thank you...

Not momenteraly becuse the scab is still on and i can not take a precize photo. But the moment it falls off i will post.
Thank you all...
And you will probably get a video cuz my camera is not best quality.

You know, some people here might find the scab to be helpful too. Maybe shoot a bit now, then more when/if the scab falls off? You never know what's going to be helpful.

Here is some info on iodine by one of our very respected Senior Members:

· Iodine can be an effective topical antiseptic agent although most veterinarians will recommend Chlorhexidine Gluconate.

Thank you very much,...
Sorry for not posting any pics...
She is much better now...
Only a scab left...
I'm just worried about her spikes on a beck. There is none, and i hope it is possible to grow back once more.

If anyone had any experience as I had please to tell me what happened.
Thank you...
