Digby, they stayed in the cup just fine when I used olive oil. From what I've noticed they only seem to fly when startled.

You can get water crystrals for cheap at home decor style stores. They're used for flowers so you can generally find them as powder there.

Where does everyone get their katydid feeders? I live in norcal and I don't think we have the nice big green ones, otherwise I'd catch them myself.

Are they loud? I thought I read somewhere that they're nocturnal and rather loud at night.

Those things can bite it feels like a minor bee sting to humans. Based on that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Escargot or Helix Pomatia is what I think the right snail for feeding. I'm not sure how easy it is to find them live, but I can catch them out here in Santa Cruz, so I'm gonna try to start breeding them. Seem to get along fine with woodlice too.

The beetles are different species though they're both darkling beetles. I haven't been able to find any information on them around. I think the chows are different, though you may get them to eat and survive off of one for a little while. I would stick to separate chows.
