Haha, at first I made one kind of as a joke, and then folks on the tortoise forum all wanted one... so I spent the past week making those during the various 'waiting for the kids' times. :)
I am excited to invite you all to my brand-spanking new tortoise-and-chameleon-themed Etsy shop, Mossy Tortoise
I currently have some chameleon art prints from some illustrations I painted, some baseball-sized original collectible ACEO paintings of tortoises (will add more regularly), as...
I thought this pic might make you smile - Leonard, our veiled chameleon, puffed up, made himself flat as a pancake, and displayed his brightest "swearing like a pirate" colors when he saw my red Christmas sweater. You should have heard him hiss!
It was so funny, I just had to take a...
I love hearing stories of 'old' chams... just cuz it is so good to see people keeping their pets throughout their whole pet-life. I wish I knew how old our 'special needs' cham is... so I would know when his behavior is just another issue, or due to old age.
When we first got Leonard...
If you look at how skinny his legs and tail are, and how pronounced his spine is, it looks like he needs to be fattened up quite a bit. He may be this small at this age because he wasn't getting enough food?
If he has little nubs at the heel of his feet, he's a male.
Any news?
A good long misting, including spraying in the face a bit, can help the cham wash out its eye. Antibiotic eye drops may be necessary.
I hope the vet was able to help!
Yeah, I don't believe anything pet stores say. If you think about what it takes to be hired there (not a whole lot more than working in a grocery store - not that there is anything wrong with the job in itself), and the fact that the pet store wants to make money... it makes sense.
Glad your...
Good to know! I am totally picking off stuck sheds from now on... ;)
I've found that stubborn pieces of shed skin can come off pretty easily with a good long warm misting. To do this I fill the misting bottle with warm water, and hold the cham in my hand over the bathtub and have my hubby mist...
Leonard the chameleon is going to need a second surgery in a few weeks. :(
He had surgery already to remove an abscess on the ridge of his nose. Now he has a new one (or a recurrance?) in the tear duct of the side where the original abscess was.
Leonard was on antibiotics for 10 doses...
It always surprises me that people get a pet without doing the necessary research. Simply entering "Veiled Chameleon care" into google would bring them a whole long list of articles to read (I know - because I did it!).
I think as parents (or future parents... or grandparents) it is...
Are you able to find a reputable reptile vet in your area? This can go badly VERY quickly, it doesn't take much for a little female to die egg-bound... a vet can help though, if it's on time.
Good luck!
