i have to disagree on putting 2, let alone "1.3" in there.
2x2x4' is good space for a single male. 2x2x6 he will be plenty comfortable.
I would not put 2 in a cage of that size. I currently free-range 2 (a female panther and male jacksons, so breeding isn't an issue) in a 3'x3'x8'...
Ideal larger plants with good branches are hibiscus, ficus, and I like pothos (but thats a vine so use it as supplemental perhaps). It could be helpful to narrow down the cause of death of your zebra plant as well, which may have to do with your current setup.
regarding drainage:
where...
There is no special spectrum radiation; what plants need to photosynthesize is visible light.
To get technical, the red and blue wavelengths each promote a different component of the plant cycle (flowering and vegging; this is why "professional" grow lights come in red and blue...
Home Depot, Lowes, etc still carry these. The standard old regular ones.
They are simply no longer used for indoor lighting purposes. They still have other valid uses (such as reptile heating :P)
EDIT: I agree about the exploding issue if you aren't very careful.
I only quickly glanced the responses, so perhaps I missed something but...
You don't have any adults? Nymphs don't breed and it takes them upwards of several months to reach breeding age.
You should have adult males and females (Males have visible wings, Females don't). 1 male: 2.5 females is...
looks like it is coming along pretty well!
I'm not entirely understanding how your enclosure itself will be setup. If you plan on hanging it to your PVC frame (can't entirely picture this), I would add a support piece going across under it as well. It can get heavier than it seems...
@spawn: he's referring to a sealant to go over the grout.
Drylok is a latex-based "paint". I would VERY strongly recommend against it for being used directly on foam.
However, I highly recommend drylok if you are working with wood.... :)
Thanks !
I've spent several years experimenting with different techniques now and I have failed many, many times....
There is nothing worse than spending a ton of time and money on a project, and thinking you have it done beautifully only to have the entire thing crash out on you a month...
"ok" is a relative term.
Is your goal for the animals to stay alive? Can easiy mix species.
If your goal for the animal to have the "best" conditions it can? Very hard to mix species
but as they said, pygmy will drop in a tiny bit of water and i do mean tiny!
I would say a medium critter keeper is WAY too small for 5 pygmy ....babies perhaps but since you bought them they must be old enough to sell so (and based on the pic) I'd say its small.
I'd keep 2 adults in a 10 gallon....maybe 3 MAX
DISCLAIMER/NOTICE: There are many methods on the web to making these things. Please be wary that not all products are safe. Furthermore, many users who post a fantastic product on day 1 will not be so quick to update that post 3 months later when the setup has rotted, collapsed, or otherwise...
@leet: The dirt issue is always there, but I have not had a problem with it since the majority of my setup is branches anyway they spend very little time on the wall. I also do not cover the soil on the ground level (i'm sure a practice frowned upon by others) but in my experience the crickets...
Ignore all that garbage marketing.
Heat bulb: Any bulb that puts out heat (typically this is an incandescent bulb)
Plant "growth" bulb: (GENERALLY) any bulb that puts out light ~6500K (this is independent of the "type" of bulb, so you can have a 6500K incandescent bulb providing heat...
@yeahbuddy: for larger setups, tube lights are generally better; they are also often used for UVB bulbs
Regarding T8 v T5....its really just more light output. There is no real difference in terms of the "quality" of light (thats more in your bulb) so really, its up to you...
I...
I have made several faux rock/dirt backgrounds.
There are many different methods (do NOT use the clay method for chameleon setups!! well, IMO don't use the clay method period...but it "works" for 100% humid frog tanks for some people)
For faux ROCK, I recommend using STYROFOAM thin sheets...
Can you clarify on your setup a little more?
The answer will change depending on a few things. In general, I would suggest using an alternate collection method rather than trying to increase evaporation like this though (but as I said, it depends on your setup)
Hey DJ,
I would be wary of doing an entire garage by yourself unless you have some experience. "General" answers to questions posed on the internet are dangerous because these situations vary greatly.
Space heaters are Dangerous to use in these situations. They generate a large amount of...
