Anyone in Northern VA or DC area that can take in a sick chameleon?

Veild chameleon, more than likely with MBD, needs someone who is experience asap to take him in and try to nurse him back to health. He hasn't eaten in days and is reluctant to drink. I've tried all suggestions given to me and things are the same, if not worse. He is about 7-8 months old and was a very friendly and happy little guy up until about 2-3 weeks ago. I will not ship him in this condition, I can bring him to you anywhere in northern VA or DC.

Thanks.

I cannot afford a vet, I can barely afford to feed myself and my daughter. I'm ready for all the judgemental responses from owners on here who are so much better than me, but it is what it is in todays economy - especially in northern va. This is the best I can do for him, offer him to someone who has the resources to care for him. I love him very much and if I were in a better situation he would've been at the vet 2 weeks ago, but as much as it sucks this is reality and he needs someone as soon as possible.

I can hear you on the economy around there. No one should judge you since you are trying to give it to someone who can help it. I m in no place to take it or I would. I hope you find someone quickly.

This is a crappy situation. Sorry to hear of your predicament. I wish I could help. Good luck to you and your cham. Hope you find a happy home for him soon!!

Can you post some photos of him please?
I'm in Gaithersburg md, so I might be able to take him, but I'd like to see him first.

I'm in Centreville, VA, not too far from Gaithersburg, Md. He has drank water a couple of times in the past 48-72 hours and I've been able to pry open his mouth and get a few crickets in there and he ate them with no problem. I've been putting him outside in the sun the last couple of days and he perks right up and turns really dark to absorb as much sun as possible. He is still lying at the bottom of his cage the rest of the day though, eyes closed most of the time. See pictures, let me know if you wanted to take him in - if not I understand. I will be getting my financial aid for school any day now and I plan to get him into the vet as soon as it comes (hopefully today!!), but if you are able to take him before then I would prefer he go with somone experienced and have the best chance at surviving. Thank you for reaching out!

**Pictures - For some reason I can't upload the pictures in my reply...I have posted a couple pictures previously a couple days ago under the thread "Is this normal", hopefully you can find them, sorry, I will keep trying to upload them.

If you can get him in to see a vet to get some calcium, I'll take him.
I saw the pics, he's not that bad off.... But he does have MBd.

I can't take him before Sunday though as I am out of town.
Mondays and Tuesdays I have work until 330 then class from 5-10 pm in Bowie md.

So why don't you get him in to see a vet then we can discuss the logistics.

Will you be giving his cage and lighting with him as well?

I was mainly worried about the delay in vet care, that is why I asked if someone wanted to take him. I should be able to get him into the vet by this weekend and after that, depending on what the vet says, I should be able to take care of him and hopefully get him back healthy :) If he is not responding to any treatments the vet gives him by next wednesday, I will definitely contact you and hopefully you will be able to help him. I appreciate your concern.

Probably bad to say in a place like this, but your daughter and you should come first. No matter whatever happens. She is the most precious thing you have and malnutrition can damage her brain and her body.

However it is very heroic of you to find a better place for your Cham though.

You can always say that here, I will back you up every time. i love my chams, but reality is a human child has to come first. I think the op is doing everything the way she should.

Well I am out of town until Sunday. So I couldn't take him before then anyway.

But you decide what you would like to do.

I'm off and on the forum all day.

Thanks Laurie. I think einsteinlove is amazing as she wants to balance all responsibilities in the best way. I was concern about the apologetic tone. There should be none. Not important to the case.

And camimon is amazing too.
