Are Daddy Long Legs okay for Gizmo

Funny, I always thought daddy longlegses (daddies longlegs?) were cute - as arachnids go.

Thaxter ate a spider (not a longlegs) last summer before I could interfere, and suffered no ill effects. He seems to ignore the plentiful bees in our yard, for which I am thankful.

Ive seen my guys eat bees countless times. Anywhere from bumble bees to wasps! Never phases them either. The first time I saw it I was like OOOHHH NOOO. Dude chewed it up swallowed and went right on about his business. I think either the bee doesnt know what happened before its to late or the mouth and toungue cannot be penetrated by the stinger. There is a video on youtube of a cham eating bees. I will catch the bumble bees and throw them right in the cages. I steer clear of the ones that sting though. They can catch them themselves.

Macro... I'm like in LOVE with your pictures. They're awesome man. I'm going to have to spring for that macro lens soon.

You're gonna need more then a macro lens. I have the same 60mm macro and I can't take anything even close to this.

It's the flash ;) Am I right junkie? That flash is double the price of the lens. I would have a divorce tomorrow if I bought that flash.

haha - well my wife is looking for a job - I recently bought "her" the XSI and have been suggesting she take up pet photography since nobody does it locally. It could be a "business" investment :p

Really panicked me when Gizmo got a bee before I could chase it away... He shot his tongue out...snapped his jaws down... I heard a loud "pop" and the bee was dead.

After he swallowed it he immediately went into his "happy and content" colors.... For my part, I almost had a panic attack. I kept going back and forth checking on him about every few minutes.

Well he has survived and thrived. I still chase them away though when I see them. I'm sure a few get past me though. Much to Gizmo's delight.

I've seen mine eat both the long legs (that are not properly called long legs, as Brad and eric already said) and also crane flies.

I always try and get my chams out on the weekend as long as it sunny and warm & into real sunlight. They really do thrive on just climbing around on trees and bushes and catching wild bugs and flies when they can. I used to really stress over it but after a while of them eating 'takeaway' I relaxed a bit as they were enjoying it so much.

I dont let them catch a lot because of pesticides etc & they don't catch a lot themselves but I really think its the thrill of stalking, waiting and hopefully snatching a bug that keeps them in a way happy and content and I am glad that I get to watch them enjoy doing this.

btw...I freaked when 1 of them got their first bee

You are so right. Gizmo absolutely loves his outdoor set-up. I feel good that I'm able to give him the environment so closest to his wild state. They really do seem to enjoy the hunting. Gizmo is always much more active on his outside ficus. The wind moving around in the branches really sets off his "exercise" mode.
