I have a 6 month old male veiled Rango and im wondering if they get attached with people. seems still he could do better without me besides i feed and water him. oo and clean his poo lol! just didnt know if its me or what not. pet store said he was a buddy reptile but yet no hes not. Help

A chmeleon will never have the same characteristics as say a bearded dragon that is kind of known for being the lap dog of reptiles. They are more of a display pet. To be seen and fed and allow them to interact when they feel comfortable doing so. Your dealing with a prey animal and he sees you as a predator. As soon as he figures out your not the enemy he will relax more and start to allow some interaction and stuff. Try hand feeding treats that usually helps them assoc you with food. I start by giving them hornworms or the occasional green grasshopper. They cant resist anything green.

Because chams are solitary creatures naturally they don't tend to seek out other creatures socially. It's just not a need they have or the way they are wired. Sure your cham learns to recognize you once it knows you are not going to eat or kill it. You are part of the daily routine it can trust and you bring things it wants. They are very visual creatures so pay attention to appearances like your clothes colors, changes in your appearance (like a big change in hair color or shape).

The pet store was totally wrong about a cham being a "buddy" pet. Maybe all they meant was that the cham couldn't inflict major injuries if it got upset.

SO not to sound mean or cruel but it is wrong to sell him then? Im not heart set on selling him by any means but i was so forward with the petstore and was really debating between the vieled and a beared dragon but because of the info I got (which i did ask reguarding the info i found online that they weren't social) said the vieled was the best ticket (and more pricey). i do really enjoy rango but i want him to hang with me. i have gotten him in the car for short trips not vet related and he seem ok after a lil while. just want him to hve the best life he can and i dont wanna jeoperdize it. THanks

No, if hes not the right fit for your wants or needs then selling him to a good forever home isnt a bad thing. Just try to be sure he wont be passed around thru multiple homes after leaving your care. Careful screening of the potential buyers is a must.

Agree with you. Chams are not pets. They are a commitment. Not as easy as beardies or tortoises.

The shop did you wrong but selling him might do him worse.

I found the labour I put in quite rewarding after all. And my Chams are just for decoration. Lol.
