Beardies

Great, did he smell the :coffee: ❓:D

How long was he "out" all told? I'm still reading, but some sources say it's healthier if they do brumate each year if they're so inclined. Ol' Stinkeye hasn't moved in 5 or 6 days—he's scheduled for a bath today. I hate to distrub [sic] him, but he's still got some nun-nums in his gut.

Yup, that's the stinkeye (one of them, anyway... )

Egad! Haven't you been following the current thread on Salmonella? ?
...or has Spike been tested specifically for it? ?
I think it’s been about a month since he started his sleepy time with his brooding behavior starting about a week or so prior to that. I don’t think I can handle an annual brumation. All the ups and downs of excitement that he woke up followed by the let down when he went back to sleep repeatedly. I don’t get a choice in the matter though. He’s the boss.
Lol. Yes, I’m aware of salmonella risks. ? It was too sweet when he rested his chin on my face though. I worry more about my dog licking my face...eater of things that come out of the cats.??
I do make a successful effort not to lick my lizards. ? We won’t even talk about hand washing...I’m surprised I have any skin left on them.

Ol' Stinkeye has [gone onto brumation]. I (re)checked several sources and the Bearded Dragon Handbook, and he seems to fit the 5 signs.
He spent the first week like this, with his chin propped up on the border filler.

Then while he was soaking in his warm bath, I extended the hide under his mountain, so he's spending this week like this...

It's weird... he'll be sound(?) asleep, and every time I try to get a picture, being totally silent, he cracks an eye open just as I'm focusing. Every... single... time... It's freaky. ?

He’s watching you...always...watching...you. Lol
Spike’s been back to his normal for a week now and this morning the stinker was trying to go back in his hide to sleep! WTH?

Absotively and possilutely. All our pets have spent half their lives studying us, and we spend (probably) too much time studying them. Eh... something to do. ?

Just a guess... From what I've read, a month seems like the low/short end of the range.
Maybe he's not quite done yet?

Or maybe he's decided retirement has its ... ____________ [fill in the blank, says the retired guy].

Well, I took him out for our daily sit in the sun and he hasn’t gone back into his hide. The night before, stepdaughter had lowered the ac way down and the house was like a walk in freezer. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Will be setting him up to a Herpestat today-ish to make sure his temps stay within a good range.

Aww...she’s just so very pretty. ☺ Yummy purple cabbage and superworm salad!
I don’t think Spike knows whether he’s coming or going. Super active and ravenously hungry all week. Went back into his hide this morning and is sleeping again. ?‍♀️
I will absolutely hate if/when Opal decides she needs to brumate!!

This is what I get to look at. Lol.
A little fatty.
She looks fine to me. :)

Not uncommon. TMK it can take a while for them to wake up completely. If you're trying to wake him up, a slight rise in temps & occasional bath may help. OTOH, he wasn't down all that long, and it's also not uncommon for some to take a break in their brumation cycle.

My plan is to follow Ol' Stinkeye's lead.

IDT she's old enough yet. I thought Stinkeye was too soon, but some do start around 1 yr.

I've been re-watching a lot of vids & re-reading articles on brumation in dragons. Some of the information is 15 yrs. old, but just gets repeated from source to source... Others are more updated.
The more recent info says you may be able to influence whether they brumate or not through lighting & temp cycles. Theoretically, keeping both constant (lights at 12/12) may prevent brumation in some. In others, there just isn't a thing you can do—if they're gonna, they're gonna. ?‍♂️

I don't think she is either, I'm just foreseeing my dread. Lol
Why dread? It's perfectly normal & natural—part of the package.

Just read/view up on beardie brumation, make any preparations, and enjoy the respite from cleaning up ?. Think of it as an attitude thing. Sure we "miss" them, but it's good for them health-wise.
Like sending kids off to sleep-away camp?

I do not send my kid off to camp. I like to have her awake with me. Hahahahahaha. I see what you're saying. Just dread of missing her sunshiny face when brumating
