Hi guys.

We have some Cape Dwarfs in our garden. Thought I'd take a few photos and share it with you guys :)

I think the last 2 photos is of a gravid female... What do you guys think?

Very nice animals in your garden. An excellent example for natural species keeping ;)
Do they have babies in January, like Bradypodion damaranum ?

Yes we are lucky to have them! :D
I'm not 100% sure.. I see babies throughout the whole year so I would say no.

That's amazing you can go out into your backyard and see such amazing creatures in your garden! I'm so jealous!

Thank you for sharing those pictures. Those Chameleons are stunning! How lucky you are to have them in your garden and how interesting to see the gravid colors in the females. Thank you for sharing! Ruth

They are so cool and they let you hold them being wild? or are they yours and you let them live in the garden?

Thanks everyone! I will be taking a few more photos during the course of the week and share them with you guys.

They are pretty much entirely wild and they can be found all over Cape Town. They don't mind being held at all. There is one big male that sometimes fires up and hisses at me, but once he's on my hand he's chilled. (I'll get a pic of him tomorrow - IF I can find him lol)
The other ones will try and make a run for it when you reach out to them (as all chameleons normally do).
Overall they don't really mind being held.

They are awesome creatures and I love them. I would love to keep one (or 5 :D ) in captivity but It's illegal here in South-Africa.

I think It's also worth mentioning that they live in clutches. They are not territorial! I often find 3 or 4 chameleons in a single bush. It's quite hard to spot them though (being so small).

Who needs to cage them up when you have them running around in your garden!! That is so awesome. Id definitely try to plant things that will attract lots of different insects to try and keep as many around as possible.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Donatello. We are lucky to see the few cages cape Dwarf Chams in this country, you sharing chams that live alive and free it wonderful. Are there any other kinds or chams that live anywhere near you? All of us have good and bad things about where we live. For me seeing those chams would be way up on the good list.:)

I would agree also. If you can have them free in your yard. What better. You could get some feeders and try and hand feed them and get them really coming to you for a treat.:D

I am so jealous! This is one of my favorite species. I have a cb group myself, and there color is unbelievable. You are so lucky to be able to walk into your backyard and see them living cage free:) I would love to visit S.A. and see all the Bradypodion in their natural habitat. Its so sad what has happened to the natural environment of B. pumilum. Ive read that much of it has been turned into wine vineyards and housing developments. Im glad they seem to adapt well though.
MORE PICS!:D

I will take a lot of pics tomorrow and share them with you guys. I often go to Knysna as well.. I will have a look there to see if I can find any Bradypodion Damaranums.

Yes the sad thing is they often get caught up and killed during harvest at the vineyards :(

But there are many of them around in peoples gardens etc. They adjust quite well :)

They are spectacular, and I can honestly say I'd have the best looking garden there because I'd be spending so much time out there with them! Well, either that or I'd forget about weeding and just sit and stare at them! Enjoy them, all I have in the wild here are stupid anoles :D
