Chameleon has been sleeping most of the day, please help!!!!

Just today, he has been laying there with his eyes closed. When I come up he opens them and looks around and wants to run from me but that's usual. I just don't know why he's doing this. I know it's not good

My cham did this i gave him a long mist there could be something in his eyes but then there could something more serious

I have had this problem too. It may be lethargy. One example of what could have caused it is something in it's eyes. It could be a number of reasons, which you should look into, because this may be serious. But sleeping during the day is not normal.

This is weird my veiled about the same size is doing the same thing. Today is the first time he's ever fallen asleep during the day he's sleeping on my shoulder right now. It sounds crazy but I thought it might have to do with the equinox?

Lethargy is a system of something else, it's not a diagnosis of what's wrong. Do you still have your cham with MBD or has it passed? Did you get another one to start over again

My chameleon actually died, simply because he passed away. And I, at the time have no chameleon. When I said number of reasons, that meant something else that is causing it. One more thing, my chameleon actually never had MBD. It must have been deformities.

I'm just gonna kindly request you to stay out of any medical topics. You have no medical knowlege, you're not helping with your posts and you are causing confusion for people that do not yet 'know' you.

I see your chameleon has found his peace, I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you don't get another at all or until you are old enough to take care of it properly. They are not toys.

I am headed to bed soon, I have definitely received the tag, hopefully you will get the help you need before I wake up until then I definitely recommend filling out the questionare that was linked.

Please fill out the help form that Remkon linked a few posts above. It'll help rule out issues with husbandry or isolate issues and possible treatments unless a vet visit is required. I'm leaning toward possible vet visit given the information (or lack of) that we have from you.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - Veiled, Male, roughly 3months old. Been in my care 3 weeks.
  • Handling - Never, as he's still super skidish
  • Feeding -10-12 medium crickets daily 30min-1hr after lights on, also 1-2 hornworms a week right now just to show him where food is coming from. Gut loading crickets with mustard greens and fruits.
  • Supplements - Using Repashy super foods plus to dust daily. Will post photo.
  • Watering - Little dripper daily, mist with hand pump mister 2-3 times daily for 30-60 sec. I do see him drinking on occasion.
  • Fecal Description - Brown with white end not to hard or runny, seems fine?. Never been tested for parasites.
  • History - Not much bought him as a low end translucent from local reptile shop.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Custom built wood and screen cage 20x20x36
  • Lighting - reptisun 5.0 CFL for UVB, ge br30 5000k led for plants and 60w incandescent house bulb for heat. Lights on 6:15am off at 7:30pm. I also Cover cage with blanket at night to keep out light.
  • Temperature - waiting for digital therm/hygrometer to come in mail but what I have know shows floor around 74-76 basking 95-100 but I raised light this morning so hopefully that drops a little. Lowest overnight temp 68.
  • Humidity - humidity levels 40-50% trying to increase while misting. maintaining these levels with humidifier and mistings also use real plants. Analog hygrometer, again waiting for digital to arrive in mail.
  • Plants - 80% real pothos and schefflera 20% fake pothos.
  • Placement - cage located in living room corner so 2 sides are blocked not near any fans or air vents. Somewhat of a high traffic area. Top of cage is 6ft off the floor and there is a big tree outside his cage for when he is ready to start exploring.
  • Location - Denver,CO

Current Problem - caught him with eyes shut yesterday for most of the day. Would open them and walk around when I misted or got to close but would continue when I would come back. Still ate just fine. First time this has ever happened while in my ownership. Also I'm not sure if the time change had anything to do with it on top of me getting home late and his blanket was not on the cage yet and my wife left the hallway light on so this may have kept him up. I also don't know if it matters but he has been liking it under the plant light alot lately. I also raised the heat bulb this morning because I did alot of reading last night and it may have just been to hot but not sure. Hopefully you guys can help, thanks a ton. I'll post lots of pics first one of him with eyes shut and supplements.

I'm definitely not an expert(so don't think this is the for sure solution) but from what I've read you should have you're lights on and off for 12 hours. That could possibly be it and he's just tired. Were his eyes closed close to his lights off time. Or during the middle of the day?

Basking temp is way too high for a baby. Should be low 80s
That's what I was reading all night so that's why I raised it this morning. Wasn't able to get an exact temp at the time But should be good I hope. I tilted light at an angle and raised it a few inches.
