Get ready =) I thought you were going to wait until she turned 1??

Are you all prepared for when you don't sell all the babies and you have to separate them and have them all in individual cages?

I didn't mate Luie & Camille until Luie was 2 and Camille was 17 months and I was still terrified for their health. I'm a nervous wreck when Camille lays the eggs. Their eggs are not due to hatch until spring and I'm already getting ready for babies......buying tubs, extra UVB lights and my husbands building cages. I care way to much about my guys to ever risk their health.

I think I would get so stressed and not be able to leave the house if I had new hatchlings! I would worry far too much about them! I s'pose it would be very educational to have one clutch, but I just dunno if I could handle it! I was bad enough with pacing the floor when Lily laid her clutches of infertiles, lol!:D I would also find it incredibly hard to part with them after. I can see that I would be so picky about who bought them that I'd end up not selling any!:D

If there is one thing that chameleons do-it is tie you down. With babies it is even worse. At first they have to be misted 3-4X daily and fed 2x daily. Luckily with my first Veiled clutch, my daughter was still living at home and she helped a great deal with baby care as I work 50+ hours a week. Feeders are the most expensive part by far. I do wish Clea the best of luck-but start getting ready-save your money-and make sure people are on board to help you. Make sure you have plenty of room! 3 bins and lighting takes up alot of room, and then you need the 4th bin to transfer all of the babies to while you clean the others. Hopefully you will have a small clutch, but Carla was not a year old when I bred her and she laid 81 eggs-and 69 of them hatched.

I am saving my money now and my dad well help me with whatever he can. Danny don't tell me i made a horrible decision. If the eggs are laid next month then the wil probably match out next summer.

Thank you to all who wished us luck.

P.S For some of you i guess i cant say anything without being criticized

Apparently you can't respect the thread-maker's wishes, so why post and make yourself look like a jerk?

We all have to start out somewhere.

Stefan obviously knows what he is getting in to, I'm sure he has seen the cost of raising veileds thread before.. it's not like he is just leaping without looking first!

He even has his dad's support. So, there will be other people helping him.

For the sake of this board Im staying on topic, but thats my opinion and if you dont like it, sorry. We will see where this goes in a few months.

Edit: This isnt about Stefan, Its about Clea and her babies.

Are you saying you have never made a post making yourself look like a jerk? If you see something you don't like you always post and say something about it that makes you sound like a jerk. What Lizardlover is saying is not wrong and he is entitles to his opinion.

I do believe that you are breeding your chameleon for the wrong reason. Wanting to see babies is not a reason you should be breeding.

Stefan,

You need to remember that breeding is for mature adults. With that will come criticism, it is a part of life you have to deal with especially with taking such a big step at your age. A lot of people on here have different morals, ethics and ideas. While some will think it is no big deal, others see where you have potential for issues. What is done is done and it is better to have some constructive criticism than none so you are as prepared as you can be for such a big commitment. I am surprised you decided to jump into it so sudden, being as Clea is your first chameleon and you have had her for less than a year. I honestly was hoping you would wait a little longer to make your decision. Rocky and I have not bred any chameleons yet, and we got into chameleons over a year ago. I sincerely hope everything goes well for you and Clea. I am a worrier so Clea and you will be in my thoughts and prayers that she gets through this with flying colors. Best of luck to you both!

Which is why people have all kinds of different opinions, they aren't "Crititcizing" you. they want whats best for your chameleon since she cant provide it for herself, you are the one that makes the decisions for her pretty much.

Ahh, Another reason to pop a few, which, should she have one of those famous HUGE clutches, is if you aren't able to ship. I believe there are requirements that need to be met in order to ship them?

Honestly, if I was going to breed (as I'm also young and would do it for the expierence) I think I'd only want 5-10 babies. I'd wait a few months to see how many are fertile, then start to pop a few. In my opinion, it's better to end a life that hasn't seen than to let something live when I wouldn't be able to care for all of them.

I'm happy for you and Clea, but I really hope she has a small, small clutch.
