Does $84.99 sound like a lot to ship??

So I am moving and need to ship my chams. I just got off the phone with UPS and they gave me an estimate of $84.99 to ship one cham!!! I thought shipping was always about $50. Doesn't this seem way high?!?!? I am kind of freaking out about all of this here so any input/help in the situation would be much appreciated.

Does sound high to me... Of all the things affected by gas prices...shipping is definatley one of them... But $84.99 sounds like a rip off. Then again so does $4.59/gal for regular!

Nope not at all. Thats about what ups is running if you dont have a business account. If you know anyone that has a business account they can ship it cheeper.

It is expensive becasue you do not have a shipping account. Also, get the gel cool packs from the store, LLL, target or any place such as that. Give me a buzz for the ship'n trbl

Shipping

hey, def. ship US postal service (USPS). They will overnight the cham for around 20-25 dollars as long as you keep the size of the box reasonable. I just shipped a cham to Florida, from where i live in Virginia today and it was only 24.50. and also had a friend that shipped a bearded dragon all of the way to CALI from here in VA and it was only like 26 dollars. Hope this helps. As you can see UPS is a rip off

i just wanted to say i don't have a business account and i just shipped out for 50, i think the signature was a lil more but i ate the few bucks watever

just wanted to say in response to champhibins i think it was like 73 dollars and thats because i was shipping a huge chameleon

so my advice to myself and everyone else, is to findout exactly what your box size and weight restrictions are from your local ups office, call in the morning when they aren't particularly busy

you should get an idea of how big of a box u can use and weight u can do for 50, because if you are even an inch or half ounce over, you are going to be paying considerably higher, and also I feel bad for champhibians because that was an extra 23 dollars he had to pay that could have been spent on water bites or something to get the cham better acclimated...we learn through experience...peace

I'm just going to jump in here real quick.
I've overnight shipped twice with UPS.
Size matters...
I shipped a 6" cube for 48.00 dollars
A 8x8x10 was 80.00 dollars

If I needed to save some money, then I could print out a packing slip with my work and overnight just about anything reasonable for around 38 dollars.
Accounts are nice.

The cham I just shipped out to Joe from Rochester NY to Simi Valley CA was about $70 with a $12 fuel charge on top of it. I have had no issues ever with UPS and as you can tell it arrived to him without a problem...yah its a ton but I think its worth it. In my case I was more worried about having him go to a good home safely then anything else...I wasn't planning on making a profit off of the 2 chams I am getting rid of so hey I guess it all depends on the way you look at it.

Actual weight doesn’t really matter anymore; it’s all going by billable weight. So your shipper thinks that a 12x24x12 box should weigh about 50lb or whatever… It doesn’t matter that you filled the box with pillows because its not by actual weight anymore. You DO get MUCH better prices by having a shipping account. Shipping 1 adult chameleon should cost just the same at 5. Don’t go into stores if possible, do ship via the net if possible.

i wouldnt ship ups, last time i recieved a cham i was at the door waiting, i was excited duh:D. and the ups driver took the box out of the truck, gave the box a little spin between his fingers, tucked it under his arm(sideways), then placed it on the door step on its side. I guess he didnt notice the big red arrows and the words "this end up." i was sure to let him know there were live animals in there and he just replied "sorry."

Usps

USPS may be cheaper, but not in the long run if the chameleon doesn't make it. I personally would never let someone ship me a chameleon USPS. As far as I know they don't actually promise that next day will be next day. I have heard so many horror stories. If USPS was actually that reliable then you would see all the big time cham sellers using it, and they don't. IMHO it is worth the extra 50 just to make sure that my chameleon arrives safetly. This is just an opinion, but I know that I am not alone on this one. This is nothing against people that prefer USPS...just my 2 cents...

Chad -

Your absolutely right on that remark to. I was charged 4ibs even though it weighed 1.5.

Needless to say USPS would work ok if you had a early mail delivery or at least by midday. Sometimes it will not arrive until later on in the day so thats something you have to contend with as well. A business account would make a ton of sense if this was something people did all the time but for the occasional 1-2 a year many people wont go through the bother...eh such as me:rolleyes:
