Does anyone else get made fun of?

My wife doesn't say much about the Chams, the reef tanks, and all the other critters...

I just tell her its either this or Hookers and cocaine......

Bobby

hahaha...that made me laugh! This is a common statement at my house, although my hubby says, hookers and blow...lol. Good one! :p

I got a lot of crap with my last cham, Pascal, cuz I paid $800 in vet bills toward the end...

this was the same with my family... my dad got upset with me that i ended up paying so much and said that i should have just let her die without having to take her to the vet... i was a bit appalled that he would say such a thing, especially because that was the day after we had to put her down.

whatever.. now that i moved back in to my parent's place, he sits there and watches Azul occasionally.. most of my family does actually except my younger sister-in-law. she says that she's going to hate him until he turns blue.. she's not completely serious cause she says that he's cooler looking than Amy :p

When people make fun of me keeping reptiles [most of them have small dogs/cats] When I tell them my Blue Tongue Skink could eat there dog/cat.
Then they tend to shutup:D

MY wife is supper jealous:p

I have only had my cham for a lil time now and everyone I talk to about him loves the idea of having such a cool pet. MY wife on the outer hand is supper jealous of the time I spend on the husbandry for him.. when I talk about him or things i need to get for him she will not ever respond to what i'l saying.. LOL but she know I love her more thats why she pust up with it. LOL

Particularly by a significant other or family memeber for being "too concerned" over your chameleon. My wife makes fun of me on a constant basis when I say "I need to get this for Franklin" or "I need to do this for Franklin". How do I make her understand that he's just as important as our dogs and needs the same amount if not more care than they do? I've tried telling her but she just doesn't get it. He's just a lizard to her.

I get it all the time from my wife and our friends. My wife is a lot better now that she's seen how much it takes to keep them. She actually loves them now and is facing her fear of bugs by hand feeding. Haters gonna hate man..

Yes, I do get made fun of from time to time. I am a new owner of a baby Veiled cham. He is about 3 months old. I'm in love with him already. :D My best friend came over one day while I was preparing some organic fruit and veggies to gutload my crickets with. She was like, "That's a yummy looking salad. I want some." I was like, "Nope, this is bug food." LOL! She has been poking fun ever since. All of my animals are fed with top quality food. They usually eat better than I do. LOL! Ahh, well...I love my little buddies. :)

i dont necessarily get made fun of, i just have no friends lol. everyone i come in contact with thinks im crazy because all i talk about are reptiles and feeder bugs...and i have 14 reptiles and breeding colonies of bugs in my bedroom...i guess society doesnt approve of that :/

Not only do my employees/family make fun of me, it really frustrates me that I have no one to talk to in person about the enjoyment I get from having a chameleon. I would love to have a friend that shared my crazy interests in exotics, so I am very grateful for this forum.

i COMPLETELY agree with you :3 just having one person that you can talk to about your passion in person would make a world of difference.

My husband doesn't care for my chams like I do but he also knows how having an interest in chameleons literally saved my life after I was involved in a couple car accidents within a 2 month period and had a miscarriage as a result. I was put on heavy painkillers to deal with pain, started drinking and had no interest in getting out of bed during the day. Along came my first veiled chameleon, Karma! How can one spend all day in bed drunk and stoned when one has someone that is relying on you for survival? I really do owe my life to my chameleon's and hubby knows that. Thats why he'll make me custom cages, take detours on the way home from work so he can buy me fresh feeders and he has the patience to listen when I'm facing a chameleon conundrum and most of all, he doesn't bitch when I buy new supplies, which lately seems to be all the time! He's happy that I'm happy - thats all he cares about. My kids on the other hand....they think I'm craaaaazy like a fox! :D

this is really touching :) im glad chameleons have made a huge differenc ein your life! <3

I've always been a pretty quiet and solitary person. It's hard for me to break out of my shell. I spent most of my life having very few friends due to my shyness (those few friends that I had are still true friends of mine, so I take it as a blessing). When I was a child, my pets were my only friends. I was more comfortable around animals than humans. They don't judge. :) It's not crazy to love animals. Our society has just lost touch with nature. People suffer from "nature deficit disorder". We aren't the weirdos, they are. ;)

it sucks if only we can build a town for chameleon lovers only and chameleons alllllll over of course

I dont get made fun off cause my husband likes him he says he cant love him yet idk y he a lil weird ,my brother adores him and love reptiles of all kinds,my mom on the other hands is supposely scared and but she always buys him feeders :) and always want me to make a video of rango or just show him off to her friends and she likes sending me cute chameleon pictures on facebook lol

I get teased all the time, you have no idea. I'm constantly having to remind my family who Mala, Neon, and Gordo are. You would think by now who they are by the fact that I talk a about them constantly. lol

So, keeping reptiles is still sort of a niche hobby then? :) Let's not complain that the 'others' don't listen to us (we might be a bit weird, they are the ones who are wrong :D:cool:) .
Let's just be glad we have the internet to help us learn more and look at pretty pictures, while conversing politely with the other enlightened ones...........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy6iwP9Ux3A
