I want to set up a nice little free range area in my room for my Cham to get out and use while I'm in the room. Just looking for any help or advice you guys have (pictures and experience) like what are the best plants, what do you do about heating and humidity, is more plants and available area better...
Any help and knowledge would be great and pictures would be tremendous.

If this is just going to be used short term occasionally, it can be very simple. A potted fake Ficus tree from a craft or home improvement store would work, taller is better. If you need the cham to stay on the tree reliably, you'll want to provide a high up heated and lighted area that will attract him to the top of the tree. Wait until you put him back in his regular cage for drinking and humidity.

He would probably only be out on it for a few hours at a time because I wouldn't want to leave him there without me being in the room, so would he need a heat lamp? Or would he be ok without one for a few hours?

He should be ok without one unless your room is like freezinig cold. What is the temp of your room?

Nah I wouldn't say it's freezing. Id say around 60 at the lowest at most times but when the heating comes on in the evening it becomes the hottest room in the house. What would be a good amount off time to let him out for? And is there any ways to tell that he's getting cold and needs to go back in his home

my room temp is between 70f - 73f.my boy has a ficus just outside his home.when hes not on me he spends alot of time on there.he stays out around 45mins at most then wonders back to his home.he will let you know when he wants to go back.
heres a pic of him on his ficus xx

Thanks for posting pictures, really helps. Looks like a good set up and the sort off thing I'm after. Does he enjoy just sitting there and having a chance to get out off his Viv?

sully loves!!! coming out of his viv.he has done since day 1.he was handled alot from birth so loves people and being handled.
he would spend all day out if he could.he scratches at the glass and if i dont let him out he will come right down to the bottom and sit there looking at me to open the door.i make sure he doesnt stay out for longer than 45mins as i dont want him getting dehydrated or cold.

take a look of this video i posted yesterday http://youtu.be/AJBBXxskNZo

this time he slowly comes out.i think its coz he new i was filming him.normally he sprints out lol

Just get a bunch of Fluker's reptile vines and string them up high, like you
were putting up Christmas decorations :)
Maybe a few fake trees, hanging plants, potted plants, etc.

Check out the "free range" thread for pics and ideas.
