green tree pythons?

Anyone here keep green tree pythons?

What's it like compaired to keeping a cham? Love those high yellow ones. Can't do it anytime soon, but thought I'd ask around here.

I do indeed. Love 'em. Coolest snakes ever.

I'd say they are quite comparable to chameleons. They need attention to detail, high humidity, and do best when captive bred. While they are known for being agressive snakes it seems many captive bred ones are not. Also, it seems most animals of the Aru Islands-type are quite docile as well. When the time comes, I can recommend some good breeders with quality animals that are barely more expensive than imports.

Greg Maxwell has lots of keeping, locality, and morph info on his site at http://www.finegtps.com

Also good is http://www.moreliaviridis.com

Ditto all the great stuff that Kent said about them...

Lol - thanks man!
If you can keep chams successfully you can keep these...

I'm going to take my first shot at breeding them next fall :)

I have a ball python, I want a tree python but christy said NO!

...but yet she has her cham, her ferret, her fish, her coffee table, her end tables, her bigger apartment, her wireless internet, .....

i have my snake and my xbox. I want another snake :(

Nice mainland type Joe! I really dig that blue stripe, very pretty!

Here's one of mine, she's about a year and a half old now:

No they are not.

The wife and I have a rule - I can't keep anything that could harm us, so nothing venomous. They bit so I've heard, probably worse than a cham, but others could answer that better than me.

yah they bite quite hard, they have a bunch of tiny teth liek chams but a bit larger and sharper. When they bite they instinctively curl up around you as if trying to kill you like they would an animal. Fortunately they cannot stand teh taste of alcohol.

DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL. it is poison. You can use any strong alcohol layin in your bar. IE: vodka, tequila ext. when you poor this in their mouth while they r biting you they will try to get away from the taste and let go.

If you simply pry their mouth open and try to get him off that way, snakes are VERY STRONG. you could hurt them in teh fight as well as yourself. You can easily break their teeth off in your skin and it will act like glass. you will not stop bleeding.

Snakes are like most other reptiles. For the most part they are gentle and wont ever bite you but you can end up inadvertantly getting a mean people hating snake that will strike at you often. Fortunately my snake was raised during the begining of his life in a school classroom so he was introduced to loud noise and alot of people messing with him and has gotten used to handling. He is very nice and has never struck at me or anyone else I know. I have taken him to my mom's classroom and done "show and tell" days with my reptiles for her 3rd grade class and the kids loved it. Most had never seen or touched a 5 foot snake before and were quite nervous. I find it fun.

She is not a tree python. Shes a ball python but shes prolly the nicest and prettiest girl I have ever known.

The boyfriend and I owned an amazon tree boa, which quite similar to a GTP. He was not nearly as pretty but did have many of the same habits. I thought he was cool looking but I hated him... He would strike at you even if you were 5 feet away from the cage. I think ours was just overly aggressive. I never held him and only threw food in there when my boyfriend couldn't get home early enough.
We actually kept him with our cornsnake and they would snuggle everynight (they are both males and that was a bit creepy).
Sadly though he died a bit unexpectedly. My boyfriend was very sad.
We now have an Argentine Boa to hang with the cornsnake and he cuddles with her. So i think my corn is just a cuddlebunny. I love him. I'll have TSI shinobi posts pics of our snakes, they are beautiful.

I do however think the GTPs are the prettiest snakes i've ever seen. Kudos to the owners of these snakes. I sadly cannot afford them. My chameleon fever keeps me poor. :D

If you can't afford to keep your reptiles properly, don't keep them at all. It does nothing good for the health and happiness of said animals.

I will not apologize for my attitude. Bad as it is.

Trace thats not what she meant,

she meant that we cannot affotd the GTPS cause we have our chameleons, so dont be so harsh on something you mis-understood. And we plan on getting emeralds or gtps when i make the new enclosures
