Leave bugs in viv

dread

New Member
I was told by a pet shop worker not to leave bugs in my viv for longer then a couple hours as the chameleons fink they are friends and not food.....is this true

NO, chameleons do no have friends and will eventually eat or try to eat anything the size of the space between their eyes or smaller actually sometimes even bigger but not bigger than their head anything bigger than their head in general makes them nervous and they don't like it in their territory. Some Feeders can be a problem if left in a viv especially over night when the cham goes to sleep and the left over would be feeder gets to your sleeping Chameleon and eats your Chameleons eyes (aparently they go for the eyes for the moisture) this may be just an Chameleon urban legend told to 1st time keepers by Experience Breeders having a go at you but.. why risk your poor chams eyes... I still don't know if they are messing with me.

They're full of it, I've owned many different lizards and always kept live food in. Never had a single issue and I dump 100 cricks in at a time for my Chams.

Dumping a hundred crickets at a time in should NOT be done, the crickets will eat and bite at the chameleon while sleeping and does happen. Didn't happen to my cham but has happened to a leopard gecko I rescued. You can leave the feeders in during the day but take them out when the lights go out.

See what I mean are they messing with me or what? I just feed 6 dubias a day and if any left over by lights out they go back to feeder cage for the next feeding

Think about it, no gut load, dust is gone; you are leaving your chameleon to eat basically an empty shell.

yep. no value in a cricket thats' been in a cage for a week.

that's your posting. I even commented on it, as did many others, why 100 crickets at a time is bad.

you even said in that post, "Also any other recommendations or advice is appreciated." --- Many many people recommended NOT to dump 100 crickets in at a time, and you still do?

to each his own I guess..... but how are u dusting them? how are u making sure they are properly gutloaded? how are u making sure they dont eat your cham? i know u say it hasnt happened yet... keyword = yet.

do u dump 100 in because u think that's how it should be done and havent done research? or do u dump 100 in at a time because a task as simple as daily dusting and feeding is too hard for you?

not tryin to be mean yo, but that is really really not a good idea. at all. if u want the best for your cham, that is.

crickets are vicious bastards and have powerful mandibules. do not leave more that they will eat in a short while.
