Hi,Update on Ramses for anyone who is interested- he's doing much better!
I never ended up taking him back to the vet for a re-check because within a few days of my last post he began to suddenly improve. I'm not sure what did it; perhaps taking the daily medication was causing some lethargy or other side effects?
I still plan to take him back to the vet eventually but I didn't want to take him right away, partially because I was worried all the stress would cause him to revert back to not eating/drinking and partially because its been very cold where I live.
He suddenly wanted to drink again when offered and then went back to eating a few days after. He still isn't quite as interested as usual (he used to practically fall through his cage in his rush to get to the crickets) but he is eating everything I put in there! At first I was worried he was having problems with his tongue, as he didn't seem able to 'shoot' his tongue out to take crickets from my hand, but I watched him grab a cricket halfway across his cage yesterday so I know he's alright.
Thanks again to the couple of you that offered help!! I really appreciate it. Hopefully Ramses stays healthy from now on. I still don't know for sure what the problem was or if he's 100% better on the inside, but this is more than I could have hoped for a month ago. Keeping my hopes up!
Hi,
Squirt is having the same problems that Ramses is having. Did he recover 100%? Squirt is taking oral antibiotics and also injectable antibiotics. I am supposed to get Milkthistle to help with his liver.
No worries, thank you so much for your response. The antibiotics that the vet gave for squirt did not work. What kind of antibiotics with Ramses on?Sorry for the late response- haven't logged on in awhile!
If it still helps, yes, Ramses did fully recover from his infection! I can't for sure say what the cause was for it as the vet never was totally certain was the reason was, but the antibiotics seemed to do the trick for him. I hope all goes well for Squirt!

Oh okay...so the antibiotics and milkthistle is making him lethargic ?. He finished his antibiotics and his blood work was still the same so .his vet has him on milkthistle for 8 weeks. I sure hope it helps him...I am so worried about him. Does the milkthistle help a lot?Enrofloxacin for the antibiotic, meloxicam for inflammation/pain, and lactulose with milk thistle for liver support (wouldn't have remembered all the meds but luckily mentioned them earlier in the thread)! I believe it was a 21 day course for the antibiotic, I remember he remained very lethargic and seemed sickly the entire time he was on medication and it wasn't until a few days afterwards that he suddenly seemed to perk up and began to get better.
He was taking Metronidazole....I may ask his vet about Enrofloxacin and maybe that will help him get better.Oh okay...so the antibiotics and milkthistle is making him lethargic ?. The elevated enzyme in the liver is exactly what Squirt's vet said that he had. That is so awesome that Ramses made a full recovery. Squirt has a follow up appointment in 8 weeks. I will keep using the milkthistle daily and hopefully his blood work will come back normal by then.I'm not sure exactly what caused the lethargy for Ramses, my guess was the antibiotic since he made such a quick turn around after he was off of it, but it may have just been a combination of the infection/medication/stress- I'm not certain!
The milk thistle may help! I remember when my vet ran a blood test on Ramses they found something that indicated he may have a liver infection (I think it was an elevated amount of a certain type of enzyme)? So if it's something similar then the milk thistle should hopefully help Squirt as well! Since Ramses was on the antibiotics as well as the milk thistle at the same time I can't really say for sure if the milk thistle made a difference for him unfortunately.
