Hia everybody.
Problem is about my lovely Veiled cham, Male, he's 6 months old now,
I got him from breeder, when he was only 2 weeks, and Junior was doing so well, up till few days ago...
He don't like handling, and he always acting angry when touched or taking out from his cage.
He eats about 2-3 size 4 or 5 crickets a day, and 3 waxworms, i buy crickets from pet-shop,i feed them with cricket food, carrot, apple or lettuce. Dust with Nutrobal once for 2 weeks. On the beginning Junior was drinking only from the plants, but i only got fake plats (they dry fast) so i start drink him from pippette, and he get used to, so now he drink every other day this way and also i spary his cage 2-4 times a day.
Pooing every day with white urine.Color was brown-black.but todays seems like grey.:(
We keep him in Exo-Terra Viv, 100cm x 100cm,glass with the mesh top,
Exo-terra 10.0 UVB, and exo-terra heath lamp, basking temp. about 85-90, rest of the viv im not sure as i just have one termometr which is at the basking place. Between Junior and lamp its about 10cm, same UVB. Lamp swith on at 8am, switch off 7-8pm, on the bottom i just have towel, all artificial plants, background and fake bratches, nothing else in the viv.
Cage its at the coffe table across TV about 50cm from the floor. We base in the Manchester/UK.
SO SINCE FEW DAYES, HE’S NOT ACTIVE ANY MORE, STAYS HIDDEN IN THE PLANTS, BUT WHEN HE COMES OUT HE WALK VERY LOW, LIKE HE CAN'T STRAIGHTEN HE'S FRONT LEGS, AND WHEN HE BASK HE STICK TO THE BRANCH, LIKE HE LAY ON IT. WE TOOK HIM OUT TODAY AND HE'S WEAK,HE EYES NOT, SUNKEN BUT WEIRD COLOR LIKE ORANGE OR BROWNISH?! AND HE'S FRONT LEGS LOOK LIKE MBD:/
HE WAS DOING SO FINE UP TILL FEW DAYS AGO!
I HAD CHAM BEFORE AND HE HAD FUNGUS INFECTION, BUT WE CHANGE AND CLEAN EVERYTHING AFTER THAT, JUST CAGE AND LIGHTS STAYS SAME.
IM SO WORRY NOW :( CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT SOULD I DO?
I GOT ZOLCAL(LIQUID CALCIUM AND VIT. D) FROM MY PREV.CHAM SO I CAN USE FOR THIS ONE?! MAYBE SHOULD I CHANGE MY UVB LAMP, ITS 10.0 UVB AND I HAVE IT FROM SEPTEMBER.
THANK YOU!

Hi there,
I'm really sorry to hear about your cham. I think that first of all you need to get him into a screen cage. Glass aquariums aren't healthy for chams. The moisture can cause bacteria and fungal infections which you mentioned happened to your first cham. A screen cage allows air to circulate which is what a cham needs to keep healthy,

He is in the UK not the US. They use glass and screen over there. Their climate is different from ours. Personally without photos of your cham and his enclosure. We can't begin to guess whats wrong. Did you see the form to fill out when asking for help? We need all the info on your husbandry.:D

Please post pictures. It sounds like he may have MBD. A vet can tell you for sure if it isn't apparent in the photos. MBD can be corrected, but the damage will likely remain. The quickest way to correct it is for the vet to give injections of calcium until the blood calcium levels are high enough to give it a shot of calcitonin to rapidly draw the calcium back into the bones. Along with correcting the MBD you need to adjust your supplements, etc. so that it won't happen again.

IMHO you need to adjust the supplements....I dust at most feedings with a phos.-free calcium powder to make up for the usually poor ratio of calcium to phos. found in most feeder insects.

I dust twice a month with a phos.-free calcium/D3 powder to provide some D3 without overdoing it. I leave the chameleon to produce the rest of the D3 from its exposure to UVB light.

I dust twice a month with a vitamin powder that contains a beta carotene (prOformed) source of vitamin A. Beta carotene won't build up in the system like prEformed vitamin A can but there is controversy as to whether any/all chameleons can convert it so some people give their chameleons a little prEformed vitamin A once in a while. This way it leaves the owner in control of the prEformed vitamin A.

Appropriate temperatures are important too since the heat aids in digestion.

Gutloading/feeding your insects well is important too. Crickets, roaches, superworms, etc. can be gutloaded/fed a wide assortment of greens (dandelions, kale, collards, endive, escarole, etc.) and veggies (carrots, squash, sweet potato, sweet red pepper, zucchini, etc.) Your veiled can be offered the same greens and veggies and a little bit of fruit (pear, apple, melon and berries).

Calcium, phos., D3 and vitamin A are important players in bone health and need to be in balance. You need to look at the supplements, what you feed to the chameleon and what you feed to the insects when trying to balance them.

hia, thank you,hes hidden in the plants as soon i switch lamps on,its definitly smth wrong. i will try take him out today after work and do bettter photos of his front legs. thank you all
