Melleri baby pipped, Megana&Hercules' 1st!

I'm at work... Uline. Where we never have back orders... We sell rope.... Whick means there are prolly about 100,000 feet of rope on hand...... Don't tempt me ;)

Kevin, I had been working to own one of these babies prior to hatching. You and I together cat take Elliott. Don't worry Sandy, Kevin & I will be to the defense of babies wanting new homes.:):):):D:D

Late to the party :)

I've not been on the forum much lately. I'm so sorry that I missed this thread. This is such happy news! I know how much this means to you two. What a beautiful little babe......Any updates to give us? Now I'm going to have to come over and visit again. I wonder how many of them I can hide in my pockets........;) I can see why you would keep them all! Seriously big congratulations to you both!

Congrats Sandy and Elliot

Wow! You guys have really done amazing stuff lately. I am soooo impressed.
Great job! She (Megana) definitely went to the right people. Congratulations on the babies!

Howdy Sandy and Elliot,

Congratulations! I'm sure it's the combination of your expertise and all of that northwestern fresh air that has them looking so healthy :).

Sandy has such a good memory, I had hoped to fool her into believing I got a baby, Seattle is a short plane ride, think I can steal a couple for us? And are you going to bail me out if I get caught? Gome om Kevin I need backup Elliott might shoot me or drown me and send my lifeless body out to sea.:eek:

I'm in! Elliott LET THOSE BABIES GO!!! Has anyone told you about your issues with sharing?

Besides the actual sea is too far away when they are only a short distance from an active volcano (Mt Rainier) :D

Okay Sandy, we need more photos - cough 'em up. :)

Theseus was out and about this morning, wanting out of the egg container, although his umbilical cord is still attached, with a depleted egg sac on the end of it. He's now in a tub with vines and plastic plant. Here is Theseus in his little jail suit. Check out those huge paws! And the long snout. Not the little huge-eyeballed blunt head you see in a panther cham.

Theseus, 1 day old:

Elliot and Sandy, this is just way too exciting! I still have hope for Newbie yet and look forward to the day when I have these little buggers running around. :D (we have already lost some of her 92 eggs )

Um....don't you have a wedding to be attending to? :)

We do. And it is a typical day. The bride tride on the dress last night for the final time, and it was suddenly too tight! The bride's uncle is stuck at the airport because the rental company, he already paid for the car, won't give him the car. So I am rushing off to take care of the uncle. There are still several HUNDRED hors doeurves to make!

Then what are you doing on here?? Get going woman! :D (I feel for you - what is a wedding without a few mishaps?)

LOL...well we know where the hors doeurves went...

Little one #2 is out and about on the vines in the little Meller bin.

We had 2 others that pipped, came out and laid on their egg looking very good, and then died before moving away from the egg. One was found this morning, and one yesterday morning. The night before they each looked fine. Because we lost those 2 in the emerging process, I am now going to remove the baby's, with their egg, once they've pipped well and begun to emerge. (Normally I wait until a cham has moved away from its egg to be sure the umbilical cord is finished and has detached.) I will keep them misted and warm, in a separate container. Hopefully this will make a difference. So far we're at 50/50, which are not the odds I'm looking for. Breeding is definitely not "one size fits all". Every species is a new learning process.

We had 14 white eggs incubating, and about 10 weird gray-clearish eggs incubating. Even the weird eggs are hatching. Meller #2 hatched healthy out of a weird egg. This is good news because it means we may end up with more than 14.

I am guessing the gray-clearish eggs look that way because they are poorly calcified. When Megana started the egg laying process and began to fail we took her to the vet and on the first visit the vet took a blood sample. Her blood calcium levels were actually good, so we're not sure why so many of her eggs were not well calcified. EXCEPT- for the fact that the Melleri range is in our "cool" room. The lights are set to cut off if the temp reaches 76. So the lights cut off pretty regularly, and the Meller's were left without UVB and basking lights, off and on, throughout the day. We now have the Melleri free range on a separate circuit, and lights stay on all day. The reason this is safe for them is that when they free range they can get way down into cool areas if they need to. The caged species can only move around so far. There is also a sliding glass door in that room that I crack open, to help keep ambient temps cool. There is a screen door in place so the Meller's can't escape.

LOL...well we know where the hors doeurves went...

LOL, the bride did confess to eating a lot lately. But she's a size 8 so I wasn't too concerned until she tried on that dress the last time. We ended up having to run out on the day of the wedding and pick up a size 10. I still had time to alter the necessary parts before the wedding.

The uncle got his rental car. :) The hors doeurves got made. :) And everyone seemed to have a great time.

The newlyweds are in Victoria, B.C. for their honeymoon.

Thank you for posting the pics. They look great. What a beautiful animal. I don't remember, do you know which of Mike's dams Pat came from? They were trying to keep up with that so that as our adult girls (like Megana) had more offspring we wouldn't be breeding siblings together. Although, no doubt it happens in the wild and so is probably not really an issue. The sires would be different, anyway.

I do not know who he is from  Did Mike keep track of that data? I got Pat at the SD Super Show in June of.... I think 08? He is 18 months old? I think I remember him saying that the babies were 3-4 weeks old. We were shocked because of the size!
