Hi all,
My chameleon, Muldoon, lost a nail on his back left hand/paw. I don't know why this happened, possibly a calcium deficiency. I haven't been dusting as much as I should be. Look at the included picture and tell me what you think.

His nails look fine it got caught in the screen and he pulled the nail off. The most important thing now is keeping it from getting infected. I would suggest keeping it clean and watch out for swelling.

Most probable cause, was getting it stuck in the screen and it ripping it out  I've had this happen several times before to my chams until we mounted plastic coated chicken wire to the inside of the cages to help prevent this. It's cheap at Homedepot:

You shouldn't expect the nail to grow out much after this.
I would keep a close eye on it, and try to medicate it with some sort of topical antibiotic. If it starts to give him more problems and looks infected IMO a vet visit is warranted!

What type of topical antibiotic would you suggest to combat infection? This really sux! Is there anything else i can do to prevent this from happening besides the wire around the cage?
Thanks for the quick responses guys, i was totally discouraged when i saw this and though i really messed up.
