My brother needs your thoughts and prayers

They didn't catch the guys that did this. The detective said they had limited information about who they were. They had some video from nearby survalence cameras but apparently it wasn't good enough to identify them.

Your brother is in my thoughts. I know how awful and stressful and helpless it can feel to have a loved one in hospital. I hope he makes a full recovery and is able to help identify his attackers so they can be brought to justice.

He still hasnt woken up and its still a waiting game, but got a little bit of good news today. The Dr had my mom tell him that she was going to count to 20 and then she wanted him to open his fingers. She counted to 20, waited a few more seconds and he shakily moved his pinky outward. They said it's great because he responded to a command. His son can't see him because kids aren't allowed in the ICU, but his sons mom played a recording of him singing a song to him and he squeezed her hand tight.

Very good news. Thank you for keeping us posted and God Bless your brother. He sounds like a tough man and being surrounded by love has got to be helping him.

update: yesterday we did have another small victory. Besides the hand commands he is still responding to once in a while, my mom asked him of he wanted the TV on and he slowly moved his head up & down as to say yes. He has a little more head movement once in a while. my mom reads him all FB likes & posts calls & text. She played him a little of his favorite band today Metallica. He seemed to like that with facial grimacing and hand squeezes. Has a little pneumonia and is on antibiotic. We will talk to his doctor tomorrow who has been on vacation and get more updated info. Find out the next strategies and specific status of his brain injuries. Still waiting for him to wake up so we can find out if he has any brain damage.

Every little bit is good news, is more proof that he is trying. I hope and pray that soon he will wake up and make a full recovery.

Thanks for your continued support. Feeling down today as he has been off sedatives for a few days and still wont wake up. There are signs he can respond, but it doesnt look good that he doesnt wake up. Its also hard that he is so far away. The bleeding in his brain is reabsorbing, now its just a waiting game. I hope he recovers.

We are all right here with you, all the prayers and good thoughts are coming his way and yours also. I know this has to be awful for you as well as the rest of your family.

It must be so overwhelmingly difficult for you all right now. And likely for a while to come. Keep hope. It can take a long time for people to loose the sedative effect, especially if it was deep sedation, even without a brain injury. Hallucinations resulting from the sedation drugs and stress effects from neurological wake-up test are also possible. It can be scary - not trying to scare you, its easier if you are prepared for it (unfortunately hard to prepare him for it though)
Did they fully wean off the ventilator, or is he still on the ventilator most of the time?

hang in there - take it one hour at a time.

Thank you. He is still on the ventillator. Yesterday they were planning to convert it to a trach to make him more comfortable. They were also planning to place a PEG tube to make feeding better. They try to turn the ventillator down but he gets too tired and also tends to breathe too fast. He isn't moving his left side, they say he moved his left hand a little, but mostly just squeezing and moving his right. My mom got him to open his eyes for a second but she said he really struggled to get them open. Must be so scary for him.

I can't even imagine what he must be going through. I hope he gets stronger every day, so he can get off the ventilator, and come home.

Got some good news today! They did the tracheotomy and put in the PEG feeding tube so that he does not have any tubes going in his nose or mouth. He has been completely off of the ventilator today and the physical therapist was able to sit him up. He open one eye and shook his head yes and no to questions. And then when my mom told him he was doing so good he gave this hand signal

And now I know he is in there, and he is going to be ok. Even if he isnt 100%, if he can just wake up and be functional I will be so grateful Keep the positive vibes coming!
