My Petsitter and her son need your thoughts and prayers

Poor Amanda, if it's not one thing it's another!!!! I'm still praying for her little Ryan to wake up and now for her to have a speedy recovery!!!!

Update on Amanda and Ryan

Amanda is home from the hospital after surgery for the kidney stones. Ryan is starting to track a little with his eyes and is moving his head and a couple other new body movements. Keep those good thoughts and prayers coming.

Prayers every night for that poor baby and his family, maybe the news is exciting and sheds a ray of hope, but I fear the damage is so extensive without oxygen for so long that he will never have much brain function.....but there are always miracles and that is what we are all praying for.

I worry about this too, that even if he wakes up he won't be but a shadow of the boy he was. We can only hope that's not the case!

i agree... theses are very real possibilities.. all we can do is be supportive and keep praying for a miracle!! they do happen and im hoping he'll be one of them!!!!

My uncle had kidney stones and I could see the constant pain in his every movement. Sorry she had to have when it rains it poors happen. Praying for her and her family. Like I said before childrens brains are so powerful and can come back from so much damage. Hopong for the best.

Thank you so much for keeping Amanda and Ryan in your thoughts and prayers. Since Amanda's kidney stones/surgery she now has a nurse for Ryan 12 hours a day for the rest of this month. She was able to come over to my house yesterday morning for a couple of hours for the first time in over two months. It was so nice to see her and she gave me a good report on Ryan and said she can see slight improvements all the time and knows he will wake up....it's just when. We took Luie on a little ride to the post office and produce store. All of my pets, especially Red was so happy to see Amanda.....me too. :)

Thanks for the update Jann. I'm glad Amanda got to come visit with you for a bit. I'm sure it does her mind good to get a little breather from her demands at home. Not that I think she minds but im sure it can be overwhelming at times for her!
Please let her know that we all are continuing to pray for improvements in Ryan!!! Miracles DO happen!!!

Update on Ryan From Amanda

Hello everyone, I am Ryan's mother. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their support and prayers. Here is a little update on Ryan. He is doing good and is still considered to be in a persistent vegetative state. Possibly minimal conscious state. He is breathing on his own and his eyes are open, sometimes it seems that he tracks objects and people. He takes naps and usually sleeps well at night, 5 to 7 hours. The doctors are starting to wean him off of his phenobarbital medication which is for seizures. Things are going well with that so far. He is on week 3 of the wean and at week 4 he will have an EEG to make sure he is doing okay. If so we will continue dropping his dose to hopefully none. It is a pretty strong medication. He still looks healthy and has gained a little weight which i think is good. Since we have been home from the hospital I have seen progress, he moves his head on his own from time to time. He reacts to sound and ...I believe he is aware of who his daddy and mommy are. The Drs we have seen so far do not give us to much information they always say its such a grey area with having such a severe brain injury. The doctors also told us originally he would not make it and that he would never breath on his own, well they were wrong about that. Most of his original test ( cat scan, eeg, mri, lung and heart xrays) all came back unremarkable which is good. He never had brain swelling and his EEG showed brain activity. The issue is he has injury to his basil gangly which is an important part of his brain and from my understanding controls motor function. We have some new doctors appoints coming up this month and next month. I am excited to get in with Miami Children's Hospital and there team of specialist brain doctors. Hopefully they will be able to provide us with some answers and new treatments. We have also been looking into Hyperbaric chamber treatments. We are going to visit the facility tomorrow so we will see. Again I want to just say thank you for everyone's continued prayers and support. God is good and Ryan is a true FIGHTER.

Amanda,
My family and I are keeping you and little Ryan and your family in our prayers. I truly believe that Ryan is a miracle and will continue to pray for his recovery:) also will pray for his doctors wisdom and guidance. Miracles do happen, and hopefully Ryan will wake up soon:)

Thanks for the update!!

God is good and miracles do happen to those that faith in our God and I believe little Ryan is one that will see a miracle happen to him, only God knows when that will happen, we just have to keep the faith....our prayers and thoughts are with Ryan and you and his dad....I do believe that part of the miracle has already happened because of where he is now...God bless his little heart!

So glad to hear that there is hope and he has made some progress. Let's all pray that he proves all the doctors wrong. Miracles do happen. God bless little Ryan and his family.

Amanda we are all so happy to hear that things are looking up! Ryan is a little trooper and yourself and your husband are so strong at this very difficult time. I think about you guys often, hoping for good news. Keep up the good work :) we're all rooting for team Ryan! Love, hope and best wishes to you all!

I'm so glad to hear that things are moving in the right direction. All of our fingers, paws, and claws are crossed here for Ryan's recovery.

I always found the power of prayer quite a difficult concept to get my head around.....and the inconclusive science doesn't help much......Whatever the theology I have prayed for Ryan to get better. I can only hope it helps somehow :)

Edit: I have total faith in God though.......and I will continue to pray for you.

I'm about 15 minutes away from Miami Children's, so if you need anything at all let me know. Jann has my number. I should be there in the coming weeks as a volunteer doing art projects with the kids. It's a great hospital, if anyone can help it's them!

Amanda, i cant tell you how often i think of you and your little man and say a prayer... this all happened in the blink of an eye yet it may take much longer to resolve itself...
dont let that discourage you,,,, things happen every day that cannot be explained or rationilized, especially in medicine!
i'm excited to hear about your plans to visit a new facility and new doctors,, they may hold the answers to waking him up!!!!!
