My Jacksons chameleon is on its way!!!

I just ordered a Male Jackson adult. I was afraid that the babies would be too fragile so I ordered the adult. the place I ordered from had free shipping on orders over $100.00. Shipping was going to cost $29 dollars so instead of paying $29.00 for shipping I got a baby ball python for $29.00 and got free shipping. So I got the snake free! now I have to wait till next week to get them Boo! Oh well, I can make sure all is ready for the cham. Snakes are easy, Chams make me nervous but I love the Jacksons!!!

I have really gotten mixed signals with how hard they are to care for. Some information says they are for advanced keepers only, other information says they are easy and for beginners. I figure the truth is in the middle somewhere. I have kept many reptiles in the past. and had luck with snakes and geckos, but my experience with a Senegal was bad. Still I have loved the true chameleons and the Jackson's in particular. I have been researching since the beginning of the year and feel I am ready for the plunge. I just hope all goes well.

If you house them properly they are very rewarding!

Have you reaserched?

Can you provide proper cage, humidity amd temps?

Do you have a supplement scheduale being they are more sensative?

You'll be just fine, the biggest problem people have is not being
prepard and educated about them. ;):D

Exactly. Having kept reptiles plenty before, if you're that confident with your free python then you'll likely do fine. You've done loads of research and don't worry about the bad experience with the Senegal. Any experience is better than none, and will probably make you more careful. I imagine a Jacksons would be marginally easier to keep stress free than a Senegal but I have kept neither myself.
It will be difficult while you wait for delivery but the only advice worth giving now is to be patient......good luck :)

Man you aint lyin about the waiting. I am about to explode. I already have the cage set up with a mist king, an ultra sonic humidifier, a uvb 5.0 light a 75 watt basking bulb. I have a money tree and a pothos as well as sticks and some fake plants. I also have a digital thermometer/hygrometer and it show 75% humidity and 85 degrees on the basking spot. I think I am ready to go. But I am nervous!

here is my cage all set up with the mistking and humidifier running. Sorry for the picture quality it is just an old iphone

Looks pretty good. From what I can see you might want more vines and foliage. Throughout the whole cage. Other than that the only problem is the wait! Do you have a suppliment/ feeding schedule yet? And what to put in gutload?

I was up till midnight futzing with the cage because I could not sleep!

I have got the zoomed calcium supplement, and am currently gutloading crickets with oranges and dandelion greens. I was going to dust with calcium every other day. That seems like it is on track with what I have read. I have not gotten anything with D3 in it yet as I am not sure how often to do that. I really don't want to over supplement

RATS RATS RATS!!!! because of the big storms in Texas, my shipment was delayed until tomorrow!!!!! I hope Greggory the Chameleon and Pete the snake are ok :(

What are the temps supposed to be? And I am sure that they will be alright for one more day. Chams will sleep in the dark so his metabolism and stuff will slow down. My biggest concern with shipping a reptile would be if it got tooooo hot for the little guy

Setup looks good. With an adult Jacksons it is easier to over supplement so you won't need D3 as long as you replace the uv bulb often enough. You might as well have some and give it once monthly though. I agree about more foliage but I think you were onto that one anyway. Hope they're both ok, and settle in quickly...

I hear what you are saying about the foliage. The Pothos I have is pretty small right now and I was hoping it would fill in the gaps. the money tree actually has a branch sticking out of the top of the enclosure. It was not that way when I put it in there a month ago. It kind of looks cool, but I am afraid it will ruin my cage so I guess I will have to cut it. I am not so worried about the snake as they are pretty hardy, but a jacksons seems so fragile. Oh well the guy at the place I bought it from said he would stand by the warranty since it was not my fault it was delayed.

Hurray I got him!!!! He arrived at 9:30 am He looked nice and green. I put him in the cage and he immediately climbed up to the basking light. He must have been cold. the python was definitely cold. I put him in his nice warm cage and he went under his rock. I will give him a week before I feed him, but the cham I will try to feed tomorrow. I ordered them from a place I Texas called Reptile city. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about. He echoed all of the husbandry requirements that you guys preach, so I think he is pretty reputable.

Yay I'm glad that both the chameleon and the snake arrived safe and sound. Now all that's left is naming them and posting pics :)
