New Enclosure Coming

Andee

Chameleon Enthusiast
Hey guys! Its been ages once more. Life decided to make it hard and i dropped off the face of the earth a bit... again lol.

Anyways, we are moving and thus deciding to upgrade a lot of enclosures. One of the upgrades is my chameleon cage. I still have Neptune and am hoping the grumpy boy will be accepting of the change. Getting a Dragonstrand, really excited to be able to have more consistent humidity since right now my set up is less than ideal due to some damage it recieved recently. Thankfully we were moving just a month after the damage happened so we decided to have the new cage shipping to my new place.

Also upgrading to an arcadia light set up. I was thinking 7%? But if anyone has any more current knowledge that would be great for figuring out the right lights.

Anyone have a online site for picking up perches/branches at a decent price? I don't know much about what's available in my new neighborhood as far as places to collect branches or even stores available to find them.

Thanks so much!

Congratulations about moving to a new home.

Post pictures of your Dragon Strand Enclosure when the enclosure arrives, is completed and has Neptune living in the enclosure. Sound as though you are starting of to a great new beginning.

Best Regards
Jeremy A. Rich

Thanks so much for the congrats Jeremy. Neptune is just a few months shy of turning 10 years old so I am sure the adjustment will be a big one for him but I am very hopeful he will settle in and enjoy it quickly.

Hi Jann! Its great to see you. I will need to give you my new address for your letters (don't let me forget) lol. Yeah i am excited to be back, be functional, and moving forward with life again <3

How is everyone at yours?

Pets are well and I’m hanging in there. Yes please message me your new address.

Welcome back Andee! Glad things are going better for you again!
Wow…good to hear that Neptune is almost10!!! Nice!
He is definitely showing signs of his age. Slowing down, potential signs of arthritis (we are going to the vet with him probably the first few months after we move as long as there isnt an emergency for some reason)

We had a big weight loss episode before i realized he has been losing his sight a little bit (seems to have a hard time with certain shadows) and so i adjusted his feeder cup a year ago and we are still working on gaining weight. Realized he doesn't put on weight as easily anymore despite his relatively sedentary nature now. Other than those small things that are just about adjusting his enclosure and possibly getting some mild pain meds (in case he does have arthritis) he is still doing really well for his age

Hi and welcome back! I just wanted to comment about the Arcadia 7%…it won’t work. The fixture and the bulb are designed to only work together and are for species more like leopard geckos. The uv output isn’t adequate for chameleons. Also, I can’t recall how Light Your Reptiles explained it and will never find that post, but the fixture isn’t strong enough for a standard 6% so can’t produce the correct uv output. If you use the 7% bulb with a standard fixture, the fixture is too strong and will burn out the bulb. Or something close to that…this is how my brain interpreted what he said. Anyhow, stick with the tried and true T5HO with Arcadia 6% or ReptiSun 5.0. Oh, and also, avoid the budget set ups. While the fixtures may be ok, the uvb bulbs are not. You can always contact https://www.lightyourreptiles.com/ who can help guide you with your lighting needs, :)

Ah thanks so much! Saved me an annoying issue for sure, lol. Will stick with the 6% then for my old man. I am sure he won't complain since arcadia is an upgrade in general from the reptisun (not that is changes too much). He gets cali sun once to twice a week anyway so he lives a spoiled life and probably doesn't even remember before when he used to live on the east coast.
