New to having a chameleons

That is unusual that the females are more expensive. It is usually the other way around. You do know the males are the colorful ones right? The females can be pretty to but not in comparison to the males. The breeder should know the difference between male and female but sometimes they make mistakes too. Who did you buy it from and why did you want a female instead of a male? Just curious. You know that the females can lay eggs without mating right, and you have to get a laying bin set up and all that?

Oh my goodness if it's a female I'm going to scream!! I wanted a female from the get go but the breeder wanted 300$ for a female and $250 for the males!! So if so I'm stoked but don't want to get to excited. My breeder has been breeding for a long time and dose all kinds of different chameleons so I'm hoping he made a mistake and gave me a girl!!

Well that's quite odd that the prices were like that. Usually it's the other way around. She won't get the colors like her dad, but somewhere down the line, if you decide to breed her, she's got some awesome blood! Now that you know she's a girl (you can trust carol) be prepared! She will lay eggs whether she has been bred or not, and if she does not have a laying been, she will become egg bound and will die!

Omg I don't even know where to start with a name I couldn't think of a male name! Lol!! I can't explain how excited I am! How long dose it take for a female to get their colors

Lol carol you beat me to it! Get out of my brain!

Your pretty much seeing her colors.....she could get more, but not a whole lot.

My emotions just went from very excited to bummed out.. I didn't know anything about her being able to lay eggs with out being breed and I wanted a girl cause I don't know I like the dominant blue they get I guess but lean towards a male because they can me more lovey and less moody...

The females do not get dominant blue. I am not sure where you got that from. They can get a little blue in their cheeks but they are primarily brownish or peachy, sometimes orange in color.

But in it ( because we are still unsure male/famale) it has more colors in its round circle it's a blueish turquoise color.. I'm kinda upset now cause I can't do the incubating Of baby's and what not...but then I keep thinking I guess It'll learn right with awesome people like you guys to help lol

I definitely would not breed her if I was you. It's quite a process and can be very spendy. Sometimes they can have like 30 eggs. Then you have to incubate like you said, then they have to have a cage, feeders, babies eat a ton, supplements....it would be quite the task! I've thought about it before, but I'm far to inexperienced to take on something so big. I'll tell you this though, I've seen some very beautiful and colorful females before. Never as vibrant as males though. They were mostly beautiful pastels.

Just to clarify, her eggs will not hatch. Much like the chicken eggs you eat from the grocery store, they won't be fertile.

Females can have some blue. I know one breeder Kammerflage Kreations, has some of the most beautiful females around. Some of their Ambanja females have a lot of blue but that is not the norm and most females are more on the peachy/orange side like I said. I am not sure what you mean about incubating babies???? It sure looks like a female to me. The color, the rostral, the size and the tail base....those are all things to look for at the age you are telling us. When chameleons are a couple of months old, their sex cannot really be determined by color and that is why they are sexed by their tails. With yours being 5 months old, it is pretty definite you have a female there.

I'll keep you up to date.

Awww don't be so sad! She really is a pretty girl! I know it's a bummer, especially looking at her dad and knowing she won't be like that, but she could still be such a good pet. Females need love too!

Like I said, if you wanna post some more sideviews of the tail base, that might give you more assurance. You could start a new thread "help me sex my panther" and you will get more opinions than mine.

It's not that I'm just not that experience to raise babies I don't want to kill or hurt her in anyway because I have no idea what I am doing.

Oh don't worry about that. You'll find everything you need to know about reading her signs, preparing her bin here. you can do it! Don't give up!

It's not that I want the color and something a little less mood and friendly

Ok just correct me if I'm wrong....you thought the females were the more colorful and expensive correct? Which is why you opted for the less colorful because of price? I don't know about the mood part. I think they both equally can be angels or devils.

Because I'm having a hard time understanding why a breeder would have the prices backwards like that. Y'all had to have had a mis understanding some where down the line of purchasing.
