hey guys, I just got my Chameleon in from FL Chams, and I was wondering when would be a good time to feed him for the first time. He is really skinny, and i wanna feed him asap. Also how do you guys recommend feeding him? Ive got small crickets that Im sure he'll eat, but I am not a big insect guy myself. I do not enjoy touching them. How do you guys recommend I feed him and when.

feed him in the morning or early afternoon. That way your chameleon willhave time to bask and digest his food. How old is your chameleon? A baby or juvi should be fed everyday and be fed around 20 small crickets a day. You should also be feeding other insects besides crickets such as silkworms, phoenix worms, hormworms, waxworms, superworms, butterworms moths, etc depending on the age of your chameleon will determine which worms and what size. Do you know about gutloading your feeders, calcium supplments, proper lighting etc?? you can cup feed, or let the crickets loose in the cage if they cannot escape. You can also handfeed but if you just got him hold off on that and let him adjust to his new surroundings.

He is a 2 month baby. I have had the crickets for two days and I have been feeding them calcium supplements.

he is actually finding the crickets at the top of the cage. My concern is he has been standing upside down at the top of the cage for about an hour, is this normal?

That's totally normal for a new baby :) Just make sure he can't get too close to his basking light and he'll be fine.

My baby (8 week old) is still super skinny and seems to be a very picky eater...I've made a few threads about him so I won't go into him here, but he also is always climbing on top of his screen. he loves it up there!

How old is yours? I bought mine at two weeks and looking back on I wish the breeder had waited until he was a little older

ya mine is still hanging on top of the screen. Im not very sure he has even moved at all. From what Ive seen he's just walking in circles upside down. I have seen him eat, but only twice.

They love fruit flies at that age.....have you tried them to get him eating more? I'm looking forward to breeding mine soon, in large part because it'll be so much fun to watch babies hunting flies again :D
