Has anyone noticed any side effects for Panacur? Was wondering if runny poop was a side effect or maybe just the medicine working (or not working)? Hes had 4 doses thus far...

I have use panacur many times and never had any side effects. What are you feeding your chameleon? Hornworms can cause runny poop and so can parasites. What kind of parasites does your chameleon have?

He is around 6 month old (maybe less) im not sure.... so I have been feeding him crickets with the occasional superworm... although when I first started giving him the meds a couple days ago...he had stopped eating (or if he was I never saw it which is not like him). He has pinworm. I offered him a fresh batch of crickets day two and he went right for them. So since I was able to witness him eating again, I thought I would start to see a bit more 'solid' poops from him.

once a day for 5 days which is what the Rx says. I FINALLY found something about side effects (man, that took some digging)...says that diarrhea has been reported but says its from worm irritation. This is actually his second round. He did the first round but still had them two weeks later...so we went on to the second round and I have been seeing alot less worms. Just wondering when I can start seeing normal poops again. I should just call up to the herpvet. ugh...

Side effects of Panacur
Panacur may sometimes lead to the following side effects in large and small animals :

  • Stomach upset
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Heavy breathing
  • Swelling of face
  • Itching
Diarrhea has also been reported in few cases. This occurs due to the irritation caused by worms in the gastrointestinal tract. If diarrhea is bloody or becomes severe, inform your veterinarian about it.

If the animals seem lethargic or severely sick after use of Panacur, you should immediately consult your veterinarian.

The panacur also kills any good bacteria in the chameleons intestines! I treat once & again in 2 weeks & once more if needed! That's why your poop looks undigested! There isn't any good bacteria in your chams intestine to digest & absorb the crickets!

Good to know. After he got off of it the first time I did notice indigested poops. Thanks for the explaination. Unfortunately though they were undigested AND still had worms. Lol. Poor guy..... Hope he gets right after this round.

That bacteria in the gut takes awhile to multiply in the intestine! I use acidopheles from beautifuldragons.com to get the good bacteria growing in the intestine after panacur treatment!

really? Is that like a dusting powder? I'll have to look into it. I would do anything to make him his old self again.
