Hello guys, im new just registered a couple of seconds now because my vail Chameleon is very weak... he barely moves and is a pale green, has spent most of the afternoon on the floor of his enclosure laying flat... took him out a bit to get some real sun ( not the Repto 5.0 uvb bulb that he has ) i was with him the entire time ( didn't want him to get too much sun ) but he barely moves, and doesn't want to eat... bought him small crickets since he is just 5 - 6inches long ( estimating ) from head to tip of tail... i would take him to the vet but there isn't any herp Vet around where i live .. all they attend are Dogs and Cats no reptiles nor birds...

my girlfriend says that maybe he is shedding.... but i dont know.. he looks so skinny and hasn't eaten like in 3 days...

here are some pics i just took

this is how he has been laying on the floor ( which is weird since hes all the time up in his tree unless hes on the prowl on some crickets on the floor )

and here is a close up of his face

please help in anyways you can.

thanks in advance!

How long has he been like that? im definitely no cham expert but he looks dehydrated and really skinny, i could be wrong cause i'm pretty new to cham keeping... hopefully someone who knows more will chime in soon.

He is emaciated and dehydrated. Please fill out the how to ask for help form located in the health clinic and paste your answers here so that we can help you.

Bones and skin look good.
Eyes are alittle sunken in so he is some what dehydrated.

For the most part he looks great other than the fact he is severely malnourished. If he drinks then make a cricket slurry with some pedialyte and peach baby food just to get some calories in him. Odds are something is wrong and he cant catch his food and that is why he is so thin.

I would mist him with Luke warm water and drip it on his mouth... When he opens to drink put a with some reptiboost or vitamins in him.

already did.. he moves when i misted him, seems like he didnt like it, didnt try to drink or anything, and i dont have access to Reptiboost atm.. its 9:13pm over here and petsmart closed at 9pm i have to buy it tomorrow morning :(

I don't think in my opinion that 4-7 crickets is enough for a baby veiled unless he also getting lots of fruits and veggies. You should be giving powdered calcium without D3 everyday, powdered calcium with d3 twice a month and a multivitamin twice a month. Also how often are you misting a day? Don't know if I read over that or not but I don't see it on the post.

I would put him in the shower, turn the water to warm, make it bounce off the walls near a plant he's on and let him drink that way right now. I'm not sure how long this should be done for I would do it for 5 minutes. Unless someone more experience has something else to say. Also if you have any types of good vegetables or fruits that the veileds tend to like I would puree them and try giving it to him in a syringe/eyedropper.

Probably shouldn't handle him that much and he needs more calcium without d3 and he needs water.... Like I said drip it on his nose until he drinks

I am new to chameleons, but not to reptiles.try a drip system, and maybe not handling him so much.i don't want to offer much advice cause like I said I am new to chams.

Yeah you could even go longer with the shower... Maybe 15 min. My chams don't drink at first but soon they will relax and take in the raindrop sized drops off the side of the wall... The water should be luke warm

I agree with Andee, usually babies eat A LOT! I've heard they can eat 15-20 a day. The shower is your best bet. Try getting the water warm, not to hot to create some humidity in the bathroom and it should stimulate him to drink. That's what I do to get my panther drinking really well. You can stick a plant right in the shower and let the water bounce off the wall onto the plant. That didnt work too well in my shower, I ended up drowning my plant and it made a mess, so I took a shower curtain rod and hung a vine in a U shape, put it in the middle of the shower and let my Cham sit on it. He doesn't like the water hitting him too much, so I adjust it to where it mainly runs down the vine and he drinks it.

4-7 crickets a day because when i gave him more than that i would see a couple still around when i got back from work, but i can drop a few more to see if he eats them.. as for calcium i bought 5 lb Food Grade Calcium Carbonate from ebay that i use with my other reptiles Link i havent given him any multi vitamins, will buy them tomorrow morning, which one would you recommend besides reptiboost?

seems like a good idea but im afraid of him falling from the vine/plant since he is so weak.. will take him to the shower still and migth make some maki shit place for him so he doesn't fall

You can also sit in the shower with him if you have to, I have known cham owners who have had bad cases who needed to do this. not quite sure how they drank this way though, sorry =/
