Respitory Infection

Well, she died. Thanks for nothing.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, even if you had given enough information for the more knowledgeable members on this forum to give advice, I'm afraid that your chams condition would have been too far gone for treatment. The quickness of his death after your first post indicates that there was nothing that could be done. Even taking him to a vet at that point would have only resulted in having it put down. My recommendation to you at this point would to read the many care sheets that this forum has produced and figure out what it is that you did wrong before choosing to keep another cham. Maybe then at least another tragedy can be prevented.

Excuse me for being a bit edgy, but I am frustrated at the fact that I was unable to keep my favorite cham alive. There is no need for any member to feel defensive, being that I am not passing the blame to anyone. I am well aware that is my husbandry that has caused this in the first place. I said "thanks for nothing" because I received no help, I don't retract my statement. Furthermore, if you read I was asking for help on the 10th on this forum, and on the 8th here https://www.chameleonforums.com/female-mouth-gaping-82425/ Also, I never mentioned, nor implied that this forum was used in place of a vet. In fact, I went to a vet, received very little help or advice, paid an arm and a leg, and he prescribed me Bene-Bac, a probiotic for her. Which I also asked about here https://www.chameleonforums.com/pro-biotic-82900/ and received no input at all.

Once again, forgive me for being frustrated, but as I mentioned I have faced a devastating loss today. Also Benton, and Lizard Lover, I find your remarks pretty inconsiderate. If you want to make crude remarks at me then that's your choice, but it's sick that you can find any humor in this.

Everyone else, I sincerely appreciate your delayed input. I posted the trials of this morning here. https://www.chameleonforums.com/lost-loved-one-2day-83035/

Ethen I understand what your saying. I have been having issues with RI infections for quite some time now. one thing I learned about it is there is no sure fix. From my understanding the only way to get to the bottom of an RI infection is with a culture and sensitivity test done by a good reptile Vet. This alone cost's quite a bit. I was quoted over $700.00 by my Vet for a transtracheal wash. Respiratory infections can also be caused by Fungus which is even harder to get cure then Bacterial. It could have also been cancer. Thus is the circle of life.

I suspect it was fungus related. I base that primarily off the location of her cage. Due to some roommate adjustments I had to have the 2 females in my bedroom. I had them in the corner of the room, and after I moved the cages I noticed mold spots on the walls behind them, and above them. Apparently the rental I was staying in had a leak of some kind. I'm raising hell about it. Thanks for your input, I don't believe I would of been able to come up with $700. Hopefully it will be avoided in the future, I have taken several preventative measures to ensure it won't happen again. Also, for future reference I don't recommend direct doses of Repti-Aid. I will be using the neubalizer method, God forbid I ever need it.

I wasnt being inconsiderate, I was pointing out that you were probably annoyed you couldnt find a good reptile vet, hence the comment you made which is why I didnt respond in the way I alsmost did at first. Im very aware that you went to the vet but got told all was well except for her being a little over weight at 74g if i remember. You have to remember though, this is in no way a substitute for a vet, and by coming on here and delaying the much needed visit, potentially you put her more at risk. You should have been looking for a good reptile vet and getting her there asap if she was so ill, you had plenty of time.

The vet visit didn't even accomplish anything. Also time was not the issue, $ was. Does anyone know of a good reptile vet in Southern Washington?
