The Best Hybrids! :)

Im sooo sorry Olimpia, I had no idea he was gone, I probably read it when it happened but it's slipped my mind... He was a beautiful boy!!!
I have 2 questions if you dont mind... Where did he come from, do you know who his sire was? Thanks. ;)

Thank you Lisa! He was, and I waited a long time to finally find one like him, he was exactly what I wanted. It was just bad luck with the new apartment, really. I do know all that info but I will PM it to you, if you don't mind :) I purchased him as a pure Ambilobe and don't want my personal suspicions muddying someone's reputation.

All of the chams in this thread have been incredible looking - thatnks to thinking outside the box. Can't believe I missed this thread for so long

I just wanted to chime in a little but first there is some very nice stuff here.

My only issue with crosses is the one "uneducated" person that decides to sell as a pure breed. This happens when folks don't keep records of the cross. This debate comes up quite often with Rhacs (Leacianus in particular). I was going to purchase a nice male that was being sold as a NuAmi to pair up with my female. After seeing the pics and additional questions turns out he was a cross, so I declined to follow through. I'm not saying that crosses don't exist in nature, I just wanted to voice my take on the topic as a hobbiest.

I love crosses more than pures but soon, we may never no what is what because of people selling the crosses off as pures I plan to get into crossbreeding soon and im going to by pures from online sponsors and then I will keep paperwork/files on every new batch of crosses I hatch out that way people arent confused

Certainly understandable, you want to know what you are getting. I could easily say that my guy is a full Faly and I doubt many people would question it. The problem with regional variations is the fact that there is always some mixing. The only way for there not to be would be on the out islands where contact has been cut off. Otherwise what's to keep a cham or group of chams from moving into a new range? Even in the range where the colors are fairly consistent you will find color variation.

So yes, it's nice to know for sure what you are buying because if you are going to open a breeding program you don't want to waste time and money to get some mixed bag result. Short of going to Mad yourself and capturing them yourself you really can't say where they came from as they get mixed up in importation from time to time.

I was thinking of breeding him to full Faly females and raising them out to a year just to see what color variations cropped up but it doesn't look like that's in the cards at this point. Also if I were to sell them I would indeed advertise them as crosses because I don't see the point in lying to folks. What I have hoped for in what few deals I have done with reptiles is that they go to homes where people care about them and they weren't an impulse buy.

Actually non of these are hybrid chameleons. For that they have got to be from separate species or sub species and Furcifer pardalis is known to only be one species with no other sub species. They should be called cross phase or cross local panther chameleons.

This is my boy Loki. He's a tour of madagascar with:
37.5% Ambilobe x 32.815% Ambanja x 15.625% Nosy Be x 6.25% Sambava x 4.685% Tamatave x 3.125% Maroantsetra

He's from the Kammers and they really keep track of their bloodlines! He's my first chameleon and he is thriving :D I have no problem with crosses(as long as the breeder is keeping strict records of bloodlines), I love how unique they are:p
