Kiddo number three has managed to hand feed her as well, but he's only 4 so it's very hard for him to sit still long enough for her to be OK with chilling with him.
My 2-year-old is crazy obcessed!his morning routing goes like this:
Carry Sheldon the tortoise to the kitchen for his morning bath. Put Sheldon in the bath. Shake Sheldon's greens. Carry Sheldon in a rag, close to his heart so he doesn't fall, back to his enclosure and put him back. He so gently!
Go down and feed Daryl (veiled baby). He mostly try's to make friends with the crickets. the other kids couldn't care less but Brady watchs my every move!! He's deffinitily a Future Herp Lover!
I've always loved "critters" of all kinds. The moment my 5 year old son showed an interest in them is when we bought our first chameleon He loves everything about them. Cleaning, feeding, just watching them walk around their enclosures. Anything that has anything to do with them. He has hand fed them as well. I surprised just how gentle he is with them.
my oldest 2 think the critter are cool but they don't care to participate really, the 2-year-old is mistified and the 4-year-old is mortified. Hahaha! At least I know who gets Sheldon when I die here's a pic of Bug lover and his "friends"
One of my grandsons will knock you down to get to my chams when the arrive for the summer. The other one does it because we are.
My husband get's involved in their care, but not happily, he is the care taker when I leave home. Which I do a couple times a year. However he designs and makes wonderful things for my chams.
I took my super chilled 5.5m panther disesl to the nursery school I work at, he seamed to enjoy it not a fan of going in the car but once he was there and settled in a nice quite warm area he was happy even happy to let the 3-4yr olds touch him (he was on my hand and they were very gentle) they've not stopped talking about him since and can't wait for me to bring him back super cute! Xxxx
It's so great to get the kids involved, my 14 yr old step baby thinks they're kinda creepy but still watches them and gets them off my back when they climb off my shoulder. Hopefully when I have a little one in a few years they'll be into herps. We are creating a whole new generation of herp lovers!
My son (10) was all into it until it has become a job for him. 40+ Chameleons here and he is the in house entomologist expert (read insect feeder and cleaner).
That being said, I do pay him and he makes a percent of any babies that are sold.
Got to try to teach some child how to still be a capitalist.....
Wow look at all you. Developing future animal and herp lovers even uneasy husbands lol you all are getting some rep thank you for making this thread so great!!! Keep it going..never let it die
I love this. I think teaching respect for animals is important. Also, perhaps they can grow up to help educate others that these are not easy pets to keep and in turn, will reduce the amount of abuse some of these animals face simply because people are not educated about them and the level of care they require.
My sidekick loves to feed and name the cham and crested geckos
Peanut butter was her last name ! But she likes to kill the crikets idk
My lil herper is awesome
My son Ethan is almost 4 and very active I was worried when he started showing interest in Bane, but surprisingly he is very calm with him. Makes me a happy dad
mason is in the first pic on this thread before my other cpu crashed i had a ton of pics of him with charlie wonka he always wanted to hold him and cary him around...i let him carry him all the way to the store one cool summer day and the reactions from people were priceless people didnt think he was real and this other day we were outside and a flying bug of some kind landed on masons shoulder ..mason was holding him on his arm....the cham snatched that bug right off masons neck.. then climbed to the top of his head...BEST DAY EVER!!
