I agree with JaniP. Sounds like she's a crabby, uncomfortable girl right now. My girl gets so, so grumpy just before and during sheds too.The only time she ever hisses is during sheds, even.
As promised, here's a photo of her that I took about a half hour ago. For the record, she just ate a pretty large hornworm and some crickets and she always looks extra puffy after a bigger meal. Later in the day she looks much smaller, it seems. But maybe I just image all of that and she's...
I just got 50 eggs and chow delivered this afternoon. I'd love to breed them and I do have a few that have pupated, so I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens.
I forgot that I took a picture of Claudia eating a hornworm this morning. Not the best pictures, and I was too slow/she was too fast for me to get her actually grabbing it. Also, her butt is shedding, don't look ;) (you can also see some of the blue I mentioned in this post).
For the first time today I noticed that Claudia was displaying the "mustard spots" and the bluish tint that would indicate a receptive female veiled. I didn't get a picture yet and she's sleeping now, but I'll try to get one tomorrow to verify that's what it is. But how long between being...
Great tip! I'll definitely use this tip. Thank you!
Wow! That really is quite a difference. I'm definitely glad that I finally went ahead and bought in bulk. I'm sure my bank account will be too haha.
Thank you! I'll definitely give it a shot. I'm also in the process of trying to breed hornworms, so I'll have a regular little breeding center up here haha :)
Alright, so I finally bit the bullet and decided to buy crickets in bulk. I was getting tired of constantly going to the pet store. The crickets will be here on Wednesday, and my question is pretty simple...
What size container should I get for them? I'm going to the store tomorrow to prepare...
This thread is just so sad. OP, I really hope you do what's best for these poor animals soon. If you don't have time to set up a simple dripper, then maybe caring for these animals is not in their best interest right now. Please consider surrendering them so someone that does have the time can...
Definitely get the mister. I had a fogger for about two days and it did absolutely nothing to help with humidity and my cham was terrified of it. I got my money back and bought a mister instead and it's been great.
I don't see medium sized crickets being an issue for him. He looks about the size that my cham was when I got her and I was quick to upgrade her from small to medium crickets because she was eating the small ones like they were crumbs lol.
The general rule of thumb is, don't feed them anything bigger than the space between their eyes. The rule can be bent a bit for softer feeders like silkworms and hornworms, usually, but I'm not sure about crickets. Do you have a picture of your little guy?
Yep, totally normal! My cham gets ready for bed and actually was able to convey to me that I was turning her lights off too late. I bumped the times by an hour and now she's perfectly in sync with the lights on/lights off schedule. It's pretty amazing how they do that.
I absolutely love Rainbow Mealworms. I almost always get my hornworms from them. Only once did I not and quickly realized how generous Rainbow is about providing adequate amounts of food in their hornworm cups. And their prices are outstanding. Nothing I've found yet compares.
Definitely agree that he needs a much bigger enclosure. My veiled is around the same age and is in a 24x24x48 screened cage.
Also, his basking spot is too warm. For veileds it should be around 85 degrees max for his age.
Supplementation needs to be consistent. Calcium without D3 every...
